PS: Barry, Lubavichers are this kind of ultra religious jews. I guess any religion would do, but ther blessings seem to have the best effect according to most Israelli Sound Recordists... ;D
I donno, I'd check but it's probably dried out from lack of use...and it's far away in a storage facility with all my other equipment right now.
Did I miss something?[/quote]
I guess it's just a poor attempt to be facetious about the plethora of items for electrical work. Non acid free flux is bad for electrical work, as it corrodes readily. It's also much harder to find, so guard it well, if it is acid free.
Oh, see...I didn't know that. You really can learn something new on the DVX board every day. I actually almost never use flux because I taught myself how to solder, and in the process of learning I found that flux almost never does anything but stink when you use it.
I'd assume that it's acid-filled. It DID come from radio shack, after all.
How does it corrode exactly? Does it rust, tarnish, or just pull away from the connections?
I only keep soldering equipment in my bag because people invariably ask me to fix something they've broken...even if I'm directing! Not bad for a guy who essentially has no idea what he's doing...but that pretty much describes my entire life...
It gets pourous and you're right, after pitting, the joint can pull free. I guess it also can attack the metal.
Flux is necessary to get the solder to flow around the joint quickly and evenly. Very crucial when soldering delicate components that you don't want to fry in the process.
BTW...you might add a heat sink, if you haven't listed one! ;D
Funny, I always loved the stinky flux. When my father built radios, I'd just watch in order to smell the stuff!

Oh, I've got a heat sink and all sorts of scrapey, pokey things to hack at delicate electronics with. Come to think of it, the only thing I've really ever used flux with was when capping off the end of bare wire with a bit of solder.
As far as the delicate components, I tend to not deal with those as much, just the things that go bad out of physical interaction...connections, cables, wires, etc.

the lubavichers are ultrareligias jews secta who still belive that the last rabbi was the massay ( he died few years ago )
between the religias jews ( part of them ,the other part just sow him as imposter and another fols massay which coming in jewdaism from time to time , the most known is Shabtay Zvi n 17 sentery ) and some other idiots belive that the blassing from him and now from someone who replace him can bring miricals. and the drop outs i think you know whats that
if we would take it to the cristian world that most of the forum is relative it could be
the blessing from the pop against the abortions - the blassing that you will finish your movie without drow back in the midle and lost a fortune
excellent topic!!!
seriously...
i think someone mentioned this, but yes..bring several three prong adapters(whatever you call them) for wall outlets..
we were at a field shoot and the only wall outlets were the old school 2-holed ones. luckily someone had a 3-prong adapter for out extension chord!!! ...thus we had light!
take heed ya'll.
water/DVX manual/notebook i have that has settings i prefer for diff situations/cliff bars/lens cleaning paper/MANY tapes/different sized batteries for diff things/extension chords/power strips
