What's best way to monitor playback on the go...

If I'm shooting a scene and want to review the playback... Would I be better off with an external monitor or the z-finder with it's large magnification to check for details of scene. I'm leaning toward the z-finder 2.5x but would love some input. Thanks guys.

It depends on how "on the go" you mean. If you have the ability to carry around a small HD monitor, that is going to work better for checking critical focus and exposure. While the LCD and EVF of the GH1 are good, their resolution and contrast ratio are not ideal for making evaluations about exposure. If you go for a small HD monitor (with a Hoodman to shade it from sunlight), make sure it has an HDMI input. But I'm sure you already know that.
My 2 cents.

Thanks for input. Do you have any HD monitors that I should consider? I've heard of lilliput and Marshall.

Somebody else will need to answer this one. I've only used a larger HD monitor (that I borrowed from work) on a short film I shot. It wasn't the greatest monitor, but it was completely helpful for focus. Perhaps others here will chime in on good portable HDMI monitors.

Also Ikan.

You don't need an "HD" monitor. A good 480p monitor is fine as long as it's taking HDMI input.

The viewfinder is pretty high res so I use that a lot. Also, the GH1 lets you zoom in on the first frame of a recorded video...which I use to check for moiré in problem areas, etc.

Thanks for input Ben. So many choices...
There's one scene where I will be in a car filming two actors racing on bicycles. So, I was thinking of the z-finder. But, I might go for a monitor too. The lilliput looks so cheap. Wonder if they're any good... hmm...
