Whats the hype about the GH2 I just dont understand how the video is better. I took looks at several videos and the Canon footage looks great the GH2 footage looks soft. To me the Canon colors are the best more vibrant than the GH2. Also the Canon outperforms in Low Light vs GH2. I dont understand why people say the GH2 is better.

GH2 points that make it better out of the box for video -
1. Aliasing and Moire way more under control
2. EVF for shooting in the sun/bright conditions
3. NO overheating.....NONE. Not -oh I barely get the overheating, or Mine doesn't overheat stuff. No overheating PERIOD.
4. The resolution IS much higher than the Canon....no one really questions that aspect.
5. High quality 720 60p mode way more useful than the Canon. Canon's 720P is known for horrid aliasing.
6. The ease of use with just about any lens w/adapters
7. The ETC mode is by all accounts virtually alias and moire free.
8. Put the 14-140 lens on this camera and it is the closest thing to a conventional video camera in the Hybrid world of cameras.

The colors are a matter of taste and can be changed in both cameras. The lowlight is more about fast lenses - put a fast one on either camera and both will perform very well, and yes the Canon's might have a bit of an advantage there. There is some crazy good footage of the GH2 out there...it's much harder to find though because the GH2 hasn't been available for all that long and the 7d/t2i/60d are everywhere.

The colors matter the most. Canon footage is better than GH2 hands down. The GH2 footage is too soft. I watched several videos and just cant understand the hype. Sure you have AF in video with GH2 but I rather have vivid colors with Canon than GH2.

What does this mean? Soft colours? Do you mean less saturated colours?

Or are you saying GH2 footage is "soft" as in blurry and poorly resolved?

So what if the GH2 is a better acquisition camera with flatter colours which are better for grading? If you just want to shoot video for the web without doing anything special with your footage, go with a canon. The canon's resolution sucks though, and you should know that there's a HUGE difference between 'sharpness', and 'detail'. The latter far harder to attain and much better, the former easy to attain and crap if over-done.

Also, the GH2 shoots in video colour space, not computer colour space. Unless this is noted in the editing program, the footage looks flatter than it should/would be on the telly.

I personally find the GH2 colours far more natural, whilst the Canon's are highly-stylised from the off, with not really any option to tune it down or get rid of it in post. It's not a lasting thing, at any rate. People in a couple of year's time will cringe at the sight of Canon footage because it stands out so much, unnaturally, and will be "so late-2000s".

Then buy a Canon. Problem solved.

I agree with what everyone is saying, also if you are saying the GH2 is softer than Canon then you are also contradicting the people that actually say they like Canon because it is softer lol

+1. Questions are one thing, but if your mind is made up....then go buy the Canon. Oh...but make sure to get an LCDVF, don't wonder why the camera shuts off on you, and what that strange looking stuff is on people's clothing, shingled roofs, bricks, vertical blinds, etc. etc.

i love the look of the Canon 5Dmark2 but for the price i could buy nearly 3 x GH2's or 6 x GH13's.

i dont think better in camera colours or low light advantages are worth the difference in price.

the GH13/GH2 is way more usable for everyday use too, smaller, lighter, faster & more fun!

also if i owned a Canon i may be infected with the Canon's are the best disease that their owners seem to get, all the ones i know have never heard of the GH13/GH2.

Okay, provide links to the Canon videos and GH2 videos you compared. Put in some work so everyone can see where you're coming from.

those weekly threads of "why is the GH2 look so much less than canon" start to be quite funny...
same answers, trying to explain the opposite, then around the 5th reply, it's: if you don't like it, don't buy it...
the same almost every week..

don't you see some kind of a pattern here?

Questions (provided one has used the search feature first) and carefully leveled scrutiny are one thing, but threads started with this level of senseless acrimony are better left unentertained.

He is probably talking about the shallow DOF of the canons, or does he means the color ?

Here are two nice videos from the same filmer. First video is with the 60D mixed with the GH and the other one with the GH13 only. Of course different lenses were used but. Love the colors shot with the GH13. At the end the GH2 is just very sharp in comparison to the canon, so far I watch the videos about it. After Iam more sure how a 4/3 adapter works with DX lenses I will probably buy a GH2, the 60D was the other cam I was thinking about.

(would be interesting what fps rate he did use)

you are vehemently WRONG in the idea based on sharpness.... or softness.. Color and liking and all that is speculative, but resolution is something with concrete numbers...

Produce12 I thought you already have a 7d so go out and do some good with it and don't stir up the Canon vs GH2 issue. There are better things to discuss.

Overall I'd like to thank people who responded to this thread for doing so fairly calmly and rationally.

These threads are overdone and if theres merit in the points to be made, surely someone can read through the 1000 other similar threads and decide what will work best for them.

CLOSED.
