hey guys, I have an older 3ccd consumer cam that i use for a B cam but was wondering if there is a better camcorder that i could use. i was thinking maybe a Canon vixia HF model that would give me 24p and 30p and high def. would these be a good b cam? thanks

Yes the HFS 200 is a great camera...a bit over your budget, but it gives you the 24p, 30p, and will down convert in camera to SD if you need it to in order to match the DVX. The only issue may be the low light....you can limit the gain by 1db increments which I highly suggest. Otherwise the camera just cranks it up and adds noise. At around +7 or so in dim light it's not too shabby.

yeah i was looking at that one on bhphoto.com, they have it for around $650.

I would get a used DSLR like a Panasonic GH1. This makes a great B cam camera and you can shoot the details with it too!

whats the video running time with the panasonic gh1? I keep hearing that they only record about 12 minutes at a time.

I would throw in the Canon HV40. $650 from B&H, $500 through Canon Refurb... Shoots SD & HD, Native 24P and still uses HDV, miniDV. Your workflow won't be that impacted by having to edit AVCHD.

I have a DVX 100B and a 100A. They look good together. The 100A looks a tad bit grainy in comparison to the B. I just ordered a Canon HF M30 from B&H becuase I wanted a second or 3rd camera that would look good with a DVX 100 or a JVC GY 100. I'm hoping this fits the bill...24 and 30P. Price was $400 and I'm hoping to add a wide angle lens from my old Panasonic EZ1 and a xlr mic adapter. I'll keep you posted. - Rob

I did a wedding this past weekend with what i had and a friend of mine came to help me some with his jvc hd(not sure which one but it looked really pro and huge haha). anyway i think i do want some sort of hd cam and i need to really look into investing in some sort of shoulder mount or a glidecam vest cause after 7 or 8 hours that tripod and camera gets heavy, thanks for all the advice!
