What's a good alternative to an Apple Display?

Hello,

I will be purchasing a MacPro in the next week or so, and I am looking for a good display to go with it. I will be using the monitor primarily for editing in FCP. I would like a apple display but I don't know if its worth the coast, so i've been looking at some dell displays that look comparable. Can anyone suggest a monitor with spec's the same or better, that is less than apple's 23" display ($900).

Thanks.

Look at 24" from Samsung, NEC or HP, you should get a decent monitor for around 600$...
I wonder if Apple will ever update the ACDs...

I am in the market for the same thing. I have been looking at the Dell 24". The connections are awesome if you want to plug other things into the monitor.

Do you think those other brands are basically the same specs spartacus?

No, because I don´t know.
I would say that for editing, that is viewing your timeline, canvas, viewer aso, most 24" will work fine.
I would simply go for reviews from the gaming market, they test for video display.
Color accuracy for CC is different league. Like junior high vs. NFL.
The "cheapest" solution here seems to be the MXO/ACD combo.
Personaly I use an Eizo TFT and a Sony CRT with the Blackmagic Intensity Pro.

I was looking at still photo reviews, they seemed to favor the high end Lacie's but when it came to a reasonable price everyone agreed on the Dell.

I've even confirmd a few high end color correction suites in LA are using the Dell's with great results and color accuracy in the 24".

I'm using it in combination with a 19". Nice to have the 2 side by side.

Try the 24" Dell 2408WFP.

Yeah, i've bee lookin at that one for some time now, I think its between that and the ACD. I just don't want to buy a cinema display and have an update come out in a month, because I think most of us would agree they are overdue. I've just heard the colors arnt as good on the dell.

Spartacus,

I am looking to get the BM Intensity Pro as well. I have a couple of quick questions if you don't mind.

1) Does the card come with the breakout cables?
2) What connections do the cables give you? (I figure you use it if you are going to an HD and SD monitor simultaneously)
3) What do you lose by not getting something pricier, like a Kona? I edit Mini DV, P2 and RED, so I don't think I need SDI I/O. In fact I'm not sure I'd need it for capture at all.
4) Which Eizo do you use, and how do you like it?

Thanks

1) Yes, an ultra cheap RCA multi cable
2) 2xHDMI on the Card, S-Video, Component and composite on the cable.
The HDMI goes to the Eizo, the component to the Sony BVM Crt
3) I´m not sure, maybe bitdepth/quality? And yes, SDI capture of course...
4) http://www.eizo.com/products/lcd/hd2441w/index.asp but there seems to be a new model out
