What would you take?

I spent half my day scratching my head over what equipment to take with me for 3 months. I have to pack my car, an Xterra, along with 2 large dogs, 1 fat cat, 1 large foulmouthed parrot, a small passenger and 3 months worth of "I really want to have" and "need to have" stuff. Ok.....since it's not the DVX that earns me my income for the next 3 months then it is sorta low on the list of what makes it into the car. It came down to this....I could take 1 Pelican case, 1 Portabrace case, 1 Powerbook case and the Bogen tripod. So I took my DVX out of the Portabrace and put it into the Pelican along with my 35mm adapter, batteries, tapes, Octava mic & 4 inch glass filters . Now I'm trying to cram whatever else I can fit into the Portabrace. I'm thinking as far as mics go that the Sennheiser wireless is the most compact......and maybe an Octava....but my G-Raid, iPods, underwear, toothbrush and all that other stuff has to fit in too. Oh....I UPS'ed my clothes so it's just travel clothes. There's just so much that won't fit......like my Varizoom 7" monitor.....it's killing me.

So, if you had to fit all your DVX stuff into 1 Pelican Case and 1 Portabrace case......what would you take? The Powerbook case has a 17" powerbook in it along with every possible space used.....so you can't count that.

Edit....I did fit in my matte box and headphones but the only support I could fit was the Spiderbrace....it's sticking out the sides but hey...it's in there.

Take everything and tie it down to the top of your car. Besided, who needs

LOL......I've thought about it but I have to motel it for a couple of nights and I really don't want to take everything off each night. I actually did that last year and after driving for 10-12 hours each day, I spent another 2 hours every night untieing everything and dragging it up to the room......then dido in the morning. I was going to buy a cartop carrier but they look so dorky I just couldn't bring myself to look like something out of a Chevy Chase movie :) I mean......the car has to look cool or I just couldn't stand driving it.

...What about the spare tire? You don't need that do you?

...do you have a Stickypod? that would free up the camera's spot.

Lake Tahoe. I work for Chrysler there every summer shooting Jeeps for them. All still work so that's why the DVX takes a back seat.
 
Sounds like a pretty nifty job! Good luck with the packing, and I say the ski box sounds like a good deal. Nice banner by the way.
