What Web Browser to try now?

I have been using Firefox, but with each release, I get worse performance than the last build. 9 out of 10 times I close the window, I get an error when I try to open a new window, saying Firefox is already running. It is a glitch that is keeping Firefox from closing, and a real pain in the neck. It is also getting slower with each release.

So, I'm looking for a new alternative to I.E. Google suggests it's new browser Chrome, but it doesn't seem available for Win2K. What works for you? Stop me before I use Internet Explorer again!

You might want to go through your extensions and plug ins and see which ones need to be trashed or updated. I had stuff in there I didn't need or know was there and getting rid of them made it more stable.

I like Chrome. It's nice. Kind like FF was when if first came out. I'm sure it will get all bloated once they add all the "stuff" that the "masses" want like FF did. For now it's nice. Not sure if Safari for Windows works on W2K, but it's pretty decent too.

What are your system specs?
A rather old AMD 1800XP on Win2K with 528 meg o Ram. Not great by any means, but it is a reliable basic PC. And if I upgraded it any little bit, it would no longer run my 3D application, which is why I still use this machine. It has also outlived my edit machine with all new stuff... twice.

Just tried Chrome. It's very fast, but it feels too light, if that makes sense. I feel uncomfortable with it. I wonder if that means M$ has succeeded in brainwashing me :)

Gonna keep trying it for a while and see how it grows on me. Also checking Flock, hadn't heard of that before

I use Iceweasel (the unbranded Firefox port), but then again I'm running GNU/Linux. I'm in the process of trying to get a Windows version out there, but until then, I'd probably tell you to stick with Firefox.

I switched to FireFox; thus far I haven't had any major problems with it as compared with IE7 (which used to crash alot, eventutally had to run without add ons)

mind you I have had a few freezes with firefox; I think FF stills needs improvements in memory mangement though.

Too bad, I just wanted to tell you I'm using Chrome. :P

I had problem with FF and in 'sea' of alternative browsers, Avant Browser did fine for month or two, I could do some decent customization and it didn't crash. Try it, it runs on Win98+. It was ok with me, but now it looks slow compared to Chroma. (as any other is)

Yeah, I have a ram meter and if I leave FF open it uses up all the ram until I close it.

I've never been able to like FF that much so I use IE. Right now I am on a beta release 8 but it has some bugs so if you plan on using it just go with 7 for now. Chrome wasn't as fast as IE for me and I totally understand what Larry means about it being "too light."
