What to transcode t2i footage into on a windows comp with MPEG Streamclip?

I keep hearing about apple pro res but since im on a windows computer instead of a mac and dont have final cut what is the best option?

The Avid DNxHD codec is mighty sweet on the PC. it's also free.

I had this same question. I use Sony Vegas Pro 9 to edit.
