What to Edit with

salils is right! i just upgraded from WMM to smoke and it is simply night and day...

but seriously, your question relies on a few things:

what kind of computer you have (mac or pc)
how much you want to spend
how much time you're willing to spend to learn the program (all of them take some time)

the answers to these questions will help us give you better responses

i want to use Final cut pro 4. what sort of mac should i get?

Harrisino, if you're on a PC, I recommend Vegas. It's intuitive, easy to use, and there's great support in the forums here.

Vegas works great with the dvx.. and its very cheap compared to adobe premiere and final cut pro..

If you are going to use FCP 4, then you should buy an older Mac with PPC, not Intel. Look on ebay for some PowerPC macs. A powermac g5 would do you well, but a g5 Imac will work too.

Why do you suggest that?

I'm looking to sell off my powermac G5 and get a mac pro, or macbook pro sometime in the near future.

Get a new intel mac, and upgrade your FCP to version 5. If you want a laptop, the new macbook pro's are awesome to edit with.

Wow, thanks! I'm using Vegas already but I guess all I have to do is upgrade to a newer version. Thanks! Oh, I'm working with a PC and I'd like to spend less than $700 on editing stuff.

If you have a PC you can download premiere Pro tryout and test it. I like Premiere Pro

I think you'll find the majority of PC users will suggest you stick with Vegas. That's what I'd be on, if I wasn't a mac guy ;)

BLAM!!
