what to do with tape stuff?

I am getting ready to sell off my Sony PD-150 and 170, which will leave me with only my 2-500's. I am also debating with what to do with my Sony DVCAM vtr. It really no longer fits into my workflow - especially since I will only have Pana stuff, but if I get rid of the vtr, I have no way to put anything onto tape at all.

Those of you that have gone completely tapeless, how are you getting stuff back to the client? Did you keep any vtr's around for delivery purposes?

Thanks,
Brad

I take drives with finished shows to a facility that has multiple formats and output there. Usually to dvcpro. It costs bit but not as much as a deck.
A lot of my clients just take drives now.
I keep a camera around just in case I need to ingest something from minidv but its been gathering dust for a while now.

Hmmm... that's another point. If I get rid of all my cams and drive, I'm left with 5 years of tapes and no way to get them into the puter. Hmmm... such a dilemma.

I run into that problem all the time. I have stuff on 1 inch. You almost have to go to the museum of broadcasting to play it back. Now granted I don't have much on 1 inch that need all the time but every once in a while.

I also have a lot on beta. Over the years I've moved alot of that to harddrives that I archive. Not all the camera masters but what I need for demos and ongoing retrospective projects.

Don't get me started on film. I may just go out and buy an old moviola for 50 bucks just so I can look at my old 1 light work prints. Strictly for nostalgia you know.

I'll tell you if you're in this business for a long time you don't need to watch love fest entries to need a drink!
