what to do for audio?

What bugs? I haven't found a single one? Or do you mean problems? Those are not bugs since they are completely expected by design. /matt

bugs meaning problems with poor design and firmware implementation- stair stepping, lack of shutter and ISO control, overheating, high compression.

ok, you might as well say "pints of beer as in poor design..." or whatever, because that's not what bug means. it's not a bug that a fiat 500 doesn't fit 6 people. :-)

Well if you want to get technical a bug is actually a small creature.

stair stepping and overheating are bugs.

No. A bug is an unexpected behaviour in a system. It's not a bug that the same fiat doesn't have a 400 hp engine either. /m

It already is, stop doubting. I don't think that it will be for very long either but this is the year of the d90. /matt

you guys can't be serious, there hasn't even been one serious short 'indie' documentary or any kind of film out for that matter made by the d90. the only one that seems to be in the work is squig's and by the time he gets his script finished and all his nice glass arrives im sure a better body will come out which he'll use his glass with.

im not hating on the d90, i have two myself. but i hate to say it, this just sounds like 'fanboy'ism. it hasn't hit the success of the hv20 nor will i think it ever will, newer dslrs with video function with eclipse the d90 very soon if not already (e.g. mark II, and the argument "you can't compare the two" is pretty much irrelevant to me because a bunch of low budget filmmakers are wise enough to shell out the dough for the convenience of the mark II to the d90)

does the d90 have a solid user-base? i assume so, but by no means is it 'the' camera.

I don't consider the canon a "movie camera" cause it doesn't shoot 24fps.

True I might be upgrading to a D??? when I start shooting but I might also run out of money so I'm still prepared to shoot with 2 D90's.

A HV20 with DOF adapter can't compete in the dark and the bokeh looks really muddy compared to the D90 which has a bokeh closely resembling 35mm.

I don't really care if everybody starts making films with the D90. All I can say is that it's the 1st digital film camera that is visually worthy and affordable enough for me to start making films with. And it doesn't look like I'm alone.

And on to Matt's bug debate. Nikon might not consider overheating a bug but us users certainly do! If your fiat starts overheating after driving it for 10 minutes is it not buggy?

2009 has lasted 10 days so far, what did you expect? there are at least five features being shot on it that i know of, more than what the hv20 has produced in two years. i also agree with squig, the hv20 without and adapter is a toy, and with one it's a nightmare in low light, and the 5D doesn't shoot 24p which disqualifies it for most people.

the fiat will most definitely overheat if you push it too far. totally expected behaviour. you're not supposed to stay in live view for hours and if you don't the camera doesn't overheat, simple as that. whether something is a bug or not doesn't depend on whether you like it or not. i totally see your point but why use a word that means something else? makes no sense to me.

by no means is it 'the' camera
it won't be for long, but it sure is now.

Let's go back to original question of sound. Although you guys are quite entertaining to read.

Matt I took it outside on a hot Australian summers day, around 32 degrees C in the shade. I had it in live view for about 10 minutes and it started to overheat. Of-course I was aware of the overheating problem but didn't expect it to happen so fast. It did the 30 second countdown and I still managed to get the shots and I can live with it but I will be getting a 2nd D90 for the feature. It would be a little embarrassing to have it overheat on set......luckily I'll be shooting the feature mostly through winter.

I've nolticed there is a vent on the camera where you hold the grip with your right hand, maybe it is needed for ventilation.....I was handholding it when it overheated.

We're not arguing, we're debating...sorry we got off topic

wow, that's pretty fast considering the temp. i live here in florida and had it in liveview for almost an hour and it was 80+ humidity in direct sunlight before it died. but I also had it on a tripod.

yeah, that's faster than i've noticed. while it's certainly a factor i don't quite see how the outside temperature can have that much to do with it though, i thought it was more an issue of heat being built up inside the chip. i used it in 25 degrees and it took about an hour, when we started switching out of live view after every take it didn't overheat at all even though we shot continuously (well, intermittently i guess) for 12 hours, 2 hours of footage altogether.

btw i'd rather win gold at the paralympics and be a retard than not participate in anything. participating is number one, winning is number two, then everything else. but i guess this has always been what separated us winners from the losers. ;-)
