What to ask when buying a used hvx?

Hi There!
Ok so I am looking to buy a used HVX here on the market place or Ebay. But I'm not really sure what to ask when buying a used HVX? What's the difference between an HVX200 and a HVX200A? What is the main question I should be asking when buying a used one? I want to make sure I don't get a bunk HVX! Can anyone help me out? Thanks!
 
Since the tape drive is only used in SD there's less wear on most used HVX's than tape driven HDV cameras. If it's been cared for you're probably ok.
 
I'd mainly ask:


  • The number of operating hours on the unit
  • How many hours on the tape heads
  • For pictures of the actual unit
  • How it will be shipped (original box or user-provided one)
I think you are far better buying off of the marketplace here than on eBay, if nothing else because you can do some background history on the seller by looking at their posts via this site. If they have been around for a while and contribute positively, they are much less likely to cheat you than a new user.

Almost as importantly, you may get a better deal here because the seller won't have to pay the rather substantial eBay fees.
 
twistedlincoln, pretty much covered it. i have had GREAT experience with the marketplace here. ive had about a half dozen sales and purchases here with no problem.

to add to the suggestions. just use common sense. look for someone who has either sold here repeatedly or has AT LEAST a few dozen posts - and not ALL of them being in the marketplace section.
