What the hell is wrong with Craigslist

Yep, you find these crappy gigs all over, but Craigs List is just awful (most of the time). Like others have said, I too have found some gems here and there. And even more rare are the little to no pay gigs which ocassionally bring something nice. For example, a few years back, I answered a Craigs List ad to shoot a short film for no money. I dunno, I just felt compelled in the moment. By doing that, I met my gaffer (who was also working for free), and nowadays he is my right hand man in a beautiful, creative and professional relationship. :)

You never know what craigslist will have next. Its all based on chance im afraid...

However, there are a few very decent people making very decent filmmaking offers. It just takes a bit of time to find...

I'm in college and like I said I don't mind getting crappy free jobs to build a reel. The main issue at least here in South Florida near me is there is barelly any work at all, and if there is they only want people with all equipment and a full resume, but will pay next to nothing....wtf? It's just very unproffesional. Sometimes very few there are the small gems but then again so many people down here trying for those few and far between jobs...how is someone suppose to build a reel? I'm a good very good production worker, but no one seems to care. Its muy frustrating =P.

Hahaha - I loved that lock post.
Too bad it was so short, otherwise I'd think about turning it into a 'Project Rant' epsiode.
:)

And yes, the ads on CL can be annoying, insulting and infuriating....
my advice is don't worry about them, and move on to the next one.
If someone is asking for something you find unreasonable or impossible - so be it... don't waste any time on it.

You guys also have to remember that this is not just a craigslist issue, but an industry issue in general. For example, at the time of this writing Discovery Channel has over twenty thousand... 20,000 openings for unpaid interns, and five... 5 openings for paid employees... and by "unpaid" i mean absolutely zilch, not even a stipend, the entire multi-billion dollar company is being run on free labor.

I recently started looking up well known production companies on Monster.com, and it is really an insulting and sad state of affairs... the next time you are watching your favorite cable TV show, jot down the Production Companies name, and look on monster for job openings, they are all making a living off of the backs of free labor!

People will also expect a "Pro Videographer" to spend 8 hours shooting their wedding and reception, then edit it and hand out 50 DVDs for $60, but have no problem paying a Photograher $1,500 for stills. People are scumbags.

really?

Wow I thought I was the only one. I'm a professional, but sometimes it's very hard for me to bit my tongue and not say anything. It's annoying that people don't think of how much this stuff cost and how time consuming it really is or do they..... I know I didn't spend all of that time learning to work for free, not to mention money. Not saying I haven't worked for free before, but that was many years ago when I was learning.
