What the hell is this thing?

Hey all.

Ok. About 4 months ago I had a DVD drive and a firewire card installed in my computer. My problem is that I have no idea where it is located. I really didn't bother to check till now.

I think these two ports might be for firewire, at the very bottom of the tower, but I honestly have no clue.

Here are a few pictures. Hopefully you can tell me what it is.

Sorry that their not very clear. My digital camera sucks at close ups.

Also, while I'm at it...

I'm in the market for an affordable external harddrive (any suggestions ???). Do I need to buy one with a firewire port on it in order to save to it, or can I just use the one already installed on my computer?

Thanks for any available help.

Check... Firewire.

Maxtor has an excellent USB2/Firewire external in the 500GB range with a 16MB buffer. You can sometimes find it for less than $300. Works on anything and is plenty fast.

Do I need any firewire software or anything, or is that pretty much it?

For the external drive?

no...but they still give you software...jus connect the firewire cables from the drive to the comp...turn it on and the comp should jus detect and drag and drop your files or capture ur footage directly to the drive so you can take the drive with your footage anywhere to edit on the go!

Thats what i do atleast and get no problems...

The Top Board looks Like Ethernet (two ports)
The Middle Boards looks like its Standard Modem
The Bottom Is Firewire looks like Two 6 Pin Ports and 1 4 Pin Port

The Pictures are out of focus, try using macro mode (assuming its digital)

Doing just fine PK. I'm actually moving to Houston...RIGHT NOW!!!

I have to unplug my computer so I can load it in my car. I'm leaving in about 20 minutes. Just thought I'd check in before I go.

So, I'll see you all around when I get hooked up next week.

Gotta run though.

Texas is waiting for me.

Thanks for all your help guys.
