What the heck?

I just bought a used DVX that was tested and confirmed to be working, but when I got it and powered it on, the screen is black. It's almost as if there is a lens cap on it.

The LCD HUD is fine, I can see everything clearly, but where there should be picture is just blackness.

I've messed with the Shutter speed and Iris control but nothing is working at all.

What is going on!??

Re: What the heck?

Thanks for the quick reply, I was worried it would take awhile for any reply at all.

ND Filters are off...

This is worrying me quite a bit...

Re: What the heck?

Wait...what?
That doesn't make sense.

I can watch video when it's in VIDEO mode, though, so that doesn't make sense.

Re: What the heck?

Is it possible that in the shipping process, even though it was snuggly tucked away in a KATA bag that something like one of the CCD's burst?

I know that the Camera and VTR modes are seperate modes, and use different parts of the camera, but would one still work without the other?

Re: What the heck?

The sound still works, no picture...though. The sound levels work, and I can hear it when I plug into the tv.

It still comes out through RCA, I haven't tried firewire yet, but I assume it does. I'll check in a minute.

What f-stop does the LCD say you're at?
F2.0
I've tried from OPEN to CLOSE...nothing works.

Thanks for being here guys, I'm losing my mind.

Re: What the heck?

I reset with that little reset button just to see if there was something going wrong...

But it's still not working.

I'm going to be crying myself to sleep tonight.

Re: What the heck?

so there is no Video on the LCD or the viewfinder? but there is video running out?

Re: What the heck?

Hey saul...

There isn't video running to the monitor, only when I'm in VTR mode.

No video whatsoever when I'm in camera mode.

It's very weird.

Any ideas?

Does this sound like a broken CCD chip?

If it means anything, if I try to white balance (just for giggles) it says "LOW LIGHT"...

So something is up inside the camera (because I'm in very well lit areas).

Re: What the heck?

BrandonC, Try this.
Turn the cam on.
Set the iris to manual.
Set the zoom to 00.
With a flashlight, look way back through the lens and see if you can adjust the iris manually. You should see it opening/closing. When the cam is off it defaults to closed.
If it's not closed with the cam turned off OR you cannot adjust it manually you will at least have a starting point to work from.

Re: What the heck?

Yeah, I checked if I could see the iris moving, and it does indeed function correctly.

Thanks for trying, though.

There's a Panasonic Service Center literally blocks from my place, so I'm going to take it there after school.

Anyone have any experience with these guys? If so, how are they in terms of efficiency, pricing, etc?

Re: What the heck?

Wow, they're making me jump through hoops...it's going to cost me a fortune to get the camera fixed I'm thinking.

I might just send the camera back, this is ridiculous.

Re: What the heck?

Sorry about that Brandon. I know you must be frustrated. Don't give up. You'll get a good camera.

Good luck!
