From the HMC manual regarding Cine-Gamma...

When you select CINE-LIKE gamma, we recommend setting the lens aperture lower than the normal image level (approx 1/2) for optimal result

What is "normal image level" ? What is 1/2 of normal image level? Bad translation from Japanese to English? I think so...

I think by normal image level they might mean proper exposure if you were using a meter to decide that, though I don't know what 1/2 of it would be. Unless they mean half a stop.

The Cine-Gamma settings do not have a "knee" to smooth the transition into over-exposure... for this reason, it's recommended that you under-expose by 1/2 stop to keep highlights looking better. 1/2 stop is an estimate, and will vary based on your image... if there are absolutely no highlights, you don't have to worry; if the image has a lot of highlight detail you want to keep, more than 1/2 stop might be called for.

THanks.. that makes sense..

Is there comprehensive explanation of how Cine-gamma V works? How is it different than the other gamma settings?
