What the difference?

[Polanski]

In some places I've seen advertise as SLR an in others as D-SLR.
What's the difference between SLR and D-SLR? And what this acronym stands for?
Pardon my ignorance...

Thanks

SLR = Regular (film) SLR
D-SLR = Digital SLR (pictures saved to memory cards)

well, d-slr's are also slr's although not necessarily vice versa. saying that an slr is an slr, even if qualified as regular, doesn't really say much. but then again the first hit on google gives the answer without even clicking on it.

and just to add even more to the answer - SLR is Single Lens Reflex - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single-lens_reflex_camera more info than you'll ever want to know

SLR = Single Lens Reflex.

D-SLR = Digital Single Lens Reflex

Simply put 'Single Lens Reflex' means what you see in the view finder or on the little LCD screen is what the lens is se.

exactly...

or on the little LCD screen is what the lens is se.

...except most digital cameras show the lens image on the lcd, even the non slr ones, whereas it's exactly the slr's that don't always. i believe the (r)eflex refers to the mirror in front of the shutter, the very reason you *don't* see the image on the lcd on many slr's.
