So I'm working on documentary, shooting inside air conditioned building, then following subject outside. Camera begins beeping and won't work. Condesation alarm. Is this camera no good for documentaries? Lucky for me, I could at least get audio using my 20 dollar micro cassette recorder. Is there some trick to moving in and out of different enviroments. Help appreciated. Thanks

Dave,

It is unusual for the camera to DEW lock if you've already threaded tape indoors and then headed outside. If you loaded stock outdoors after having the camera inside, then that is a predictable outcome.

The DVX100a is no more susceptible to DEW lock than any other - we had regular failures on our 20-plus camera HDV Z1U and CineAlta show these past two months in VA, NC and SC. The pre-load and roll of tape indoors (20 / 10 bars and black seemed to be enough) almost resolved our challenges entirely.

Keeping your cameras in a cool, low-humidity environment seems like good business until you take the rig into 105 degree, 90° humidity conditions - that's when the metal surfaces become a sweat sponge!
