I have FCP3 but I hear it won't work. I haven't tried it yet.
Is there any other editer for Macs I should use?

Thanks, Dave

Final Cut Pro 4 is the current industry leader in terms of installed user base (having recently surpassed AVID) for either platform, mostly because it works well from DV to SD to HD and for any frame rate or compression standard.  The upgrade is cheap also.

I think FCP 3 will import video from the DVX100 just fine though.

I use Premiere 6.5 and have no problem with DVX100AE

I used to like Premiere for low end stuff, but Adobe recently slow up support on the PC version (although they did release a pro version) and stopped on the Mac version, so I am willing to dump it at last. In any case, iMovie in some ways took Premiere's thunder. I think for Adobe that AE and Photoshop are their fortresses in the video production world, which even with Motion and Sonic I doubt anyone will seriously invade, unless Adobe decides to start shorting AE and Photoshop development in the future.

Premiere Pro 1.5...handles the DVX like a dream. It's still a little buggy but I'm sure there's a fix coming. ;)

Re: What software do you guys use to Edit...

FCP 3 will work fine with your DVX100..  You just have to shoot in 24Pn (F5) mode.  FCP3 does not recognize Advanced mode of the DVX.  Really not a terribly big deal if you do not intend to convert to film.  The f5 (24P normal) mode is basically 24P with 3:2 pulldown added.  It's very similar to 24PA when output to NTSC (ie, 3:2 pulldown added back for display).

That said, on my G5 Mac, I use FCP 4.5HD and typically shoot in Advanced mode 24P (F6).  On the PC side, I use Premiere with my Canopus DVStorm NLE for great realtime performance.  Their EDIUS 2.5 product is very nice too.  For a PC based software NLE (ie, no 3rd party hardware acceleration) Sony Vegas seems to be a solid contender these days for 24PA editing or any mode for that matter.

Why doesn't Adobe have patch software downloads when they have bugs. What I have read says they make you upgrade to get the fix for the last release. I am thinking of changing to Vegas.

Re: What software do you guys use to Edit...

I use Vegas and Pinnacle Liquid Edition. Though more Vegas these days.

Re: What software do you guys use to Edit...

I am using Discreet's EDIT 6 on Matrox Hardware.

I think you'll find -- like many of us have -- that you won't be sorry switching to Vegas.

hmmmm a PC faster than a G5 with 8 gigs of RAM and a lot of hard drive space....are you sure about that? I don't have 8 gigs yet but I do have a gig and a 1/2 in my G5 and she is pretty quick. The G5 is a whole lot faster than my PC.
