What size of LCD mask for 16:9?

Hi folks,

I'm shooting a documentary on a small northern BC town that will mix action footage (kayaking, skiing, skateboarding) with scenics and interviews. I'm shooting 4:3 and intend to letterbox to 16:9 with the intent of offering both formats on DVD. I've decided not to use the anamorphic adapter based on all the advice on this site.

Question: I want to mask my LCD (DVX100AP) in order to frame properly for 16:9. Haven't quite sorted out exactly what the dimensions of the mask on the LCD should be? Can anybody provide those?

Also, I'm shooting a lot of 60i action footage in order get some smooth slo-mo. All my scenics and interviews will be in 24p. I had intended to edit on a 24p timeline but based on my findings here, I'm thinking that editing a 30i timeline will make it easier to bring in the 60i footage (no deinterlacing requirement). Does this make sense to you guys and will I loose much of the film effect of 24p by bringing it into a 30i timeline? I suppose I could save out to 24p again?

The above might seem a bit confused...that's because I am! thanks in advance for any help!

..turn on the letterbox option, and measure the size. then turn it back off.

as far as 24p in a 60i project.. use a 2:3 telecine it should look like a normal film telecine to NTSC and should be fine. if you dont need a 24pA master it might be easier to just shoot 24pn to use its built in 2:3 telecine, and then simply edit on a 60i timeline as you said.

Duh, I should have thought of turning the letterboxing option on to measure, thanks! I am shooting in 24pn so thanks for confirming my thoughts on 60i!
