What settings for documentry?

Hi. I've just got the DVX indoors and I think most of the settings are tested and figured out. What I am wondering is what settings to use when filming documentaries? Or filming the summer holiday when the main focus is just to hear what the people are saying and see what they are doing? Is there situations where 50i is better than 25p?

Thanks for answering ;)

Auto-Focus works faster when shooting in 50i (PAL) or 60i (NTSC). And you can use 18 db gain if it's too dark (only 12 db in progressive mode).

But I like 25p much better because of its cinema-like style, so I shoot everything in 25p.

it really depends on post. are you going to have shoots that you intend to have them in "slow mo" or not. 60i is better for "slow mo" .25p looks better overrall

I see. So what settings do you use when filming something like the family christmas or a friend doing something cool? The F5 maybe?
