I used the transcend 600x 32gb SD cards when I was with my D600 and I read a post that it would hiccup at times because it wasnt fast enough. not sure how true this is.

I currently have a D3 and D3s. selling the D3 and getting a D5300 and D750. the D750 will now be my main camera for stills (if its performance lives up to the hype) and the D3s as my backup because I dont have insurance and want to make it last. the D5300 will be used a backup video camera, which will be used on a tripod for slow dance, the BG meetup, and the ceremony.

just wondering three things
-WHat SD card do you use and what size.
-How many cards do I need to cover a full wedding if im shooting 1080p at 50p? some video guy said 6-32gb cards.
-better to use 32gb cards for safety or use 64gb?

thank you for your patience for my newb questions.

Hey,

i'm using Lexar cards mostly with my Nikon D7000. 400x and lately the 600x ones, considering their performance they're really quite cheap. Highly recommended.

The issue of 32G vs. 64G cards for safety purposes at live events has always been a serious consideration for me. I once lost a whole 64G card's worth of data. I cannot describe what a burn that was.
I have no problem with the concept of using smaller cards if changing them out during shooting is an option. I'll always do it and I'll never regret it.

The issue of data safety cannot be understated. That's one thing that has me so interested in upgrading to the D750 - dual card slots for data redundancy will be such a relief on my nerves!

I use the one rzxrey mentions but its was a present. I wouldn't mind using slower ones as long as they're sandisk (or other reputable companies like Lexar for others). That's for photography. For video, as long as we're talking internal h.264 ~40mbps anything over 40mb/s would suffice. I know all cards are manufactured in the same factory but paying a little extra and getting that "I never want to use" warranty just makes me feel comfortable. After all, cards are the most important thing you carry because your work is more valuable than your equipment and it's also the cheapest. So get a reputable one.

The Sandisk 32gb (the one rzxrey mentioned, and I guess that goes for every 32gb card) gave me 1070 shots on a D750 with 14 bit RAW, Lossless Compressed. I think I'll switch to Compressed but still 14 bit.
