What rails and baseplate do I need with the redrock microfollow focus v2?

I'm using 5D MK II. Longest lens is 70-200 f/4L but could "grow into" the f/2.8 IS later on. I've got the follow focus in my BH wish list but just the FF isn't going to do me any good without the full set up. Thanks for the help!

Mariomattei,

You can use our DSLR Quick Release Plate (which is designed specifically for the Canon 5D/7D, sporting set screws for both, and making them proper cinema height) with either a mini-DSLR tripod platform or a full sized DSLR platform. I would then suggest either 9" or 12" set of carbon fiber rods. Also, when using such heavy class consider a lens support

I failed to mention that I'm using a Zacuto Target Shooter and zFinder, which means I'm using the Gorilla plate. I despise Zacuto's prices and moving forward would rather use Redrock as I build up. But will that RRock Baseplate work with the Target Shooter? That thing plugs into the Gorilla plate. The RRock baseplate might block it if I add it beneath the Gorilla plate.

My end goal is to have the RRock v2 follow focus on at all times, and be able to switch between Target Shooter r-n-gun, Tripod, Merlin Steadicam, and HD Glidetrack. Possible?

Looks like I need the Zacuto DSLR Baseplate (for cinema kits). With this I could add on the RRock follow focus, meet my other current rig needs, and build a RRock shoulder rig from this later on.

I just picked up the mini-dsrl platform to compress the size of my rig and I must say I'm a little disappointed. First of all, the allen wrench included to take the existing screws out of the quick release plate was so flimsy that the tight screws stripped the head right off. I had to dig out my own allen set to finish the job. Also, once you attach a manfrotto quick release plate to it, it no longer fits through the rods hahaha. So the only way to pop your camera out of the rig is to remove the manfrotto quick release plate, or just unscrew and remove the camera itself from the redrock quick release plate. Otherwise it does what I needed it to do.

Hi TeresofBlood,

Which rig do you have the Mini-DSLR platform on? If you wouldn't mind sending me a photo of your setup I can take a look at it and see if there's any way around that. If you would like, shoot me an email at lsimons@redrockmicro.com

I appreciate your concern Loren. I have the DSLR cinema rig. Unfortunately, all of the engineering in the world wouldn't solve this issue. It would be on Manfrotto or any tripod manufacturer to release a quick release plate narrower than the gap between the 15mm rods.

I did, however, discover how this can be useful. Since now I'm mounting the redrock quick release plate directly to the tripod, it is exponentially easier to adjust the entire rig for different sized lenses. All you have to do is loosen the knob on the RR quick release and the entire rig can slide back and forth, which the camera remains in the same spot.
