What on God's green earth?!

Please check out the link on the bottom and someone please tell me what in the world is going on in the shadow area around 25 sec and beyond.

I have the exposure locked, so what is that God-awful red flash?

This happens to me here and there, especially in shadow areas, not dark areas in particular. The only way I'm ever completely secure that it won't happen is when doing the Kholi method, which doesn't work so well in low light.

Someone please let me know if this is normal in the camera, since I only have 3 days left to exchange it at the store.

you're house is haunted...

you have way too much noise...play with the +/- to clean that up. I have mine at 1.3 and barely any visible noise.
as far as the weird flash, i'm guessing it has to do with........

Would you please expand on the "+/-" comment? I have more noise than I expected in low light while using the kit lens. What settings would give me the cleanest low light image?

Does it only happen in that room or house? I suspect you have some sort of infrared emmitting device in the room. Cameras can see infrared light, but we can't. Take your remote control and point it at the camera while looking at the screen, you'll see the light on the remote flash when you push a button.

I'd guess it's something like a wireless headphone transmitter.

Just in time for Halloween!

I say roll with it, the d90 has untold weird issues that everyone is just discovering.... If that same thing happens in a normal locked sunlight exposure where you're not pointing into sunlight or anything like that, then you're fine.

The sun is basically the only light you can trust with the d90, every other light source on earth will give you some messed up issue....

the thing is. ive already made nice footage out of crappy lights and in a minute, at the same place, when i got out of live view mode and back to it, the footage turned into **** again. So there's a way to control it, i just don't know how exactly. the method by Kholi doenst work in low light at all.

Same issue here...

Same issue here...

About a week ago I have noticed very similar issue with my D90. When in very low light, there is this intermittent red noise that flickers over the image. I have called Nikon about that but they said this was all within specs and I need to shoot in better light. So much for the low light performance that people are counting on.

Also, this issue is separate from the normal flickering of the automatic exposure. This shot showing this issue was made with exposure lock....

have you tried turning off active d-lighting? i'm still not sure what it does in movie mode but it could definitely mess things up and i don't think it's locked by the ae-lock either.

mattsand,

I have not played with Active D-Lighting. Good idea, did not think about that. Will try tonight.

My first guess was the issue came from D90 switching ISO back and forth during video to compensate for low light.

I exchanged the camera for another one but the same atrocious effect keeps happening.

I turned off D-lighting but still nothing.

It doesn't only happen in that room, by the way, and I've also noticed it on people's face on two occasions.

Oh, and the exposure was locked, for sure.

I had the same issue. It happened when I was shooting in really low light, I can't remember if happened when I locked exposure on the source and moved the camera to a very dim area, or locked on the dim area. Also I might of had mixed colored lights.

I found out what it is. It's the white balance; I had it on auto. You have to put it on an a specific mode and it won't do it.

Thank the Christ.
