What on earth happened to my footage?

Recording hours and hours of presentations the other day I came across this while I was putting together the final dvd's of everything. Out of probably 20 hours+ of footage I've recorded using my HVX and Firestore with version 3 firmware direct to .mov this has happened to maybe a minute tops but even so it really needs to not happen.

Any idea what on earth causes these types of effects?

This is what happend in short around about 5-10 second segments at various times, the sound fuzzes out while it happens and then it flips back to normal again:

Looks like what would normally be tape dropouts. Is the Firestore hooked up by Firewire? It could be a bad Firewire cable, connectors, or the cable could have been jiggled durign operation.
