What? No, totally worth it...

While out on a shoot recently, we misplaced one of the screws to hold the long lens support to the cage of the Cinevate set up we use. It happens. So, we looked on their site to see how much it would be for a replacement. Surprisingly, it was only $3 (surprising because Cinevate is NOT a cheap place). We put three in the cart (just in case we lose another one or two in time), and clicked "check out." The shipping ... the CHEAPEST shipping (7 to 10 days) ... is $40. For $9 worth of equipment that weighs less than a Sharpie marker. That's absurd!

Don't believe me? Here's the piece:

Try it out.

Oh, the shipping is only $30 for one of those screws. :-\

I've been down this road on more than one occasion. Well if it makes you feel better pretend the equipment was $40 and the shipping was $9. Its all relative in the end.

Crazy! I would call them, explain the situation, and request they work with you on the shipping cost.

Exactly. I would assume with all the good things I've heard about cinevate, they wouldn't purposefully be gouging on shipping. Would they? If so, I'd do my shopping elsewhere...

Dynamic shipping rates are a tough thing to calculate within an online marketplace - and many of the store site solutions have very rudimentary tools for how you charge. eBay, where my company sells various b-stock items, makes it tedious to calculate minimum shipping costs and for more than one quantity. Call them, and I'm sure you'll discover that they will have a much more favorable rate worked up for you.

Just go to a local hardware store. 1/4-20 screws are very common. Don't go to HD or Lowe's, go to a place like ACE or Damman's (if they're still around). They should have these screws for a buck or two. Or you could get a whole box of socket head cap screws and buy a cheap allen wrench and keep it in your gear bag.

You can buy press on knobs for allen screws. I buy them by the 100 piece bag and a box of screws....and I use them....a lot!

Yeah, thanks guys. We'll probably just head to a hardware shop and pick a couple up. Maybe even get some that DON'T shred your fingers as you try and tighten them (unlike the Cinevate ones).
