What NLE to Use....

Agreed, those formats are a good addition, but to be honest I didn't even know they were included in the upgrade until you mentioned it. Which is part of what worries me.

I was looking at the "What's New" in v7 link off the Liquid Edition Pro page on Avid (Look at the Liquid Edition Pro page here: http://www.avid.com/products/liquidPro/index.asp) and all they listed were basically consumer fluff based "New" stuff.

Why??

It seems to me these new formats were "in the works" when Pinnacle was acquired... Any takes on this? I am just trying to figure out Avid's management thought processes. At this point, I'm just trying to get a grip on where they plan on taking this product.

same questions asked on avid´s Liquid forum.
for them AL7 is aimed at the "event and wedding film industry" whatever that means. You can also call it film vs. video. that is why they still announce SmartSound and Hollywood FX as the best thing ever. I am sure they will keep developping Liquid, but I see no clear line yet. After all they will hurt their own XPressPro market. They say they are two, but i totally miss that point of view. The indie industry (and even the big players) is leaving film for video. and Avid might get stuck in between without realizing it.

Hi,

They list it that way because those items are new to ALL versions of Liquid. DVCPro50 and I-frame are not new to Liquid 6.x Broadcast. BTW "Liquid 6 Broadcast" is equivalent to Liquid Purple (I don't know how far you guys go back into Liquid lineage). So essentially, with Liquid 7 you're getting the entire Broadcast option for the upgrade price (a measly $199).

Take a look at this link:
http://www.avid.com/products/liquid/techspecs.asp
Look at the last bullet point under "New in Version 7". Liquid 7 includes the Liquid 6.x Broadcast support. The page you've been looking at is marketing 'fluff'. Take a look deeper into the site to get to the nitty gritty.
