What ND filter you use with F35?

I know it must be IR. But what you use? Tiffen IRND? Some speak of Hoya being as good or better. Screw on or square? Screw on with step ring also ok? Thanks.

im interested in this aswell. good question. i saw a video made by abelcine showing some filters that can make a sensor go more red. like the black magic cameras.

and is 2 or 3 nd filters needed for that camera?

So Hoya ProNDs are better than tiffen?
But I must look for Hoya ProND IR or Hoya ProIRND or something?
And it cut IR polution as well as tiffen?
Which set you recommend? 1.2 and 1.8?
How you feel about step rings? Think it cuts light and not recommend?
Thanks guys.

Surprisingly the Hoya ProNDs are the best performing NDs I've ever used, better color and less IR contamination than tiffen.
Rumor has it that the ProNDs are actually just smaller cuts of the "TrueND" that band pro sells (Hoya is suspect of manufacturing those)

Ive even stacked the ProNDs and haven't seen any color shift or IR pollution on the Epic, F35 or Alexa vs shooting with out ND.

Thanks Hunter. So they are already IR and I don't have to look for proND-IR?

Which ones you have? Don't want to buy many now so wondering which are more useful.

You use step ring?

Yeah sorry I don't think the ProND's come in 4x4 or larger sizes (which again, I think is something to do with a possible non compete agreement with the "TrueND" brand)
When I had a Red, I owned some TrueND's (which are awesome but expensive).

And yes, they have some sort of built in IR protection, nots sure how it works because it isn't "mirrored" like most IR filters- Right now I just use either use lenses with 77mm thread (like the GL optics) or just put a bit of gaff tape around the filter to fit the lens- ghetto I know!

I found some threaded 82mm to 4x4 tray adapters on ebay a while back, that allows you to use threaded filters in your drop in. I wonder if those might work?

Same as my bro Hunter: I have old Arri PLs with 52mm threads, as well as Canons and such for my other cameras, so the 77mm with a step up ring is perfect for me. SJX, I think you'd want 2 at least to begin--maybe the 8 & 16 and then stack them for heavier ND if necessary?

Thanks guys but seller is saying ProND is not IR?

Hunter you have a link to 82mm to 4x4 tray adapter? Can't find.

Based on the test shots in that thread, I decided I liked the look with ProND and without IR cut (unless shooting outside with no ND). And I'd say the Blackmagic cameras have more problems with IR contamination than the F35.

But maybe you could rent a few and test them out to be sure they're what would work for you--always the best course of action before laying down all the cash.

Thanks. So you see no IR polution at all with F35 and ProND? Not even stacked? I just want neutral image.

No chance find this to rent here.

I was thinking something that give at least 9 stops so I can shoot wide open in sun if needed. 8 and 16 gives 7 stops. So maybe 16 and 32?

Step ring do not cut light for you?

I'm not an expert--do step up rings cut light intake? I haven't heard that. I haven't noticed it either. You seem to be more informed than I do!

I don't want to cut ALL IR--I think it messes with skin tone. I like the amount that I have indoors with no IR filter, and outdoors with the ProNDs. Your mileage, of course, may vary...
