FS7: What microphone are you using on your FS7?

the ME66/K6 is a great mic and worth the money. I use it often on the boom. The NTG-2 has a low sensitivity and will get all the noise out of your pre-amp. I have no idea why it has such a high rating.

But for my needs the are both too long for a on camera mic.

Thanks! I have been wondering why the NTG-2 produces so much noise on my external recorder. Now i know.

Audio is not my strong field, as i either have relied on a soundman with own gear, or FS700s shotgun.

I'm with Allen. The standard Sony camera mics for decades are designed for just this purpose and are now dirt cheap. They sound surprisingly good quite well and are the right size, sensitivity , right pattern and right handling noise for a camera mic. I've been told that the AT 875R is a descendant of these mics . the original is simply labeled "1-542-296" (I use this one) and you can find them used on eBay or craigslist for little more than $100.

The sony mic that comes on their XLR hot shoe adapter for the FS7 might be an improved version as I've also heard about the inexpensive
Sony ECM-XM1.

I use Sanken CS2 - dont know much about sound but this seems to do the trick well, I certainly find when used close that it is more isolating than my Sony Lavs.

Ive also got reasonable results from the mics that were included with the F3 and FS100.

I think positioning is all!

I have the Roland R-32, but i think it could be the same because its really alot of noise in the recordings.
