what makes the letus so good?

Well... the "surgery" took two-three hours, both doc and patient survived and I would not do it again (to anyone!) lol. The mics are small and surface mount (a pain to solder- de-solder).
I soldered three wires out (Gnd, L/R signal) from the camcorder to a smaller connector (mounted on the camcorder) from which to connect to the XLR connector. Meanwhile I got carried away with FF and so on....
Not worth the trouble because the GS200 has an Aux Mic input (remote mic, zoom, on-off) (I completely forgot about)! Anyway, that mic has a short cable.... I'll post the links to pics latter...

Well I got my Letus35 in and its well put together. I gave it a quick assembly and it looks really good so far I just have to get to work :( so I won't be able to give it a full test till later on this afternoon/evening.

From what I hear, the Letus35 is good for shooting stuff right off the bat when you get it. The only comments I keep hearing about is how often people need to clean it!!! It makes me think there must be some sort of dust epidemic going on or something!!

I built my own solid state unit, but after looking at the letus35, I'm convinced I can get better results with a 'real' system like theirs.

I'm currently split between the Letus35 and the Red Rock Micro.

Of course, the professional external look of the RRM is superior to the Letus by far, but I would love to hear comparisons as far as the image quality goes. If the quality is the same, I'm going to go with the Letus.

I'm still researching though.

Hmmmm, that's a toughie John, I've heard good things about both and I've heard a good share of bad things, most of which have been fixed with the newer models. I guess it comes down to what you can afford. If you can afford it, I'd go with the RRM because that seems like a good package deal for what you get, yet the same could be said of the Letus35A now that I think about it. Just depends on your camera and what you're wanting to spend. I'd say, if you've got a bigger camera like the DVX100/A/B, FX1/Z1U, or one of the XL-series, go with RRM but if you've got a smaller camera, go with the Letus35A as it seems to be better suited for smaller cameras, like me for instance I could go midway because I've got a GL1 which is just the right size for the Letus35A but big enough for the RRM.

Yeah, I'm really pleased with the letus35 - I've been shooting random stuff the past day or so now and it works really well. Screws right on to my camera, pretty lightweight and does it's job. for 350 the price was right and I'm glad i got it

is it possible to add some sealant to the Letus35 to make it better against dirt getting into the unit?

I think its just that when you take the lens off ( the slr lens ) it's open on that end... so unless you leave teh lens on all the time and never change it I suppose you would eventually get some dust in there or something.

If you guys can take the SLR lens mount off the Letus, and mount an UV filter behind it, that will seal the dust out. Just make sure there isn't any dust left inside BEFORE mounting the filter.

yeah that would work. Off topic, I was using a mirror to flip my lcd image since my camera doesn't have a Magnet to flip it. Well i took apart the little cover on my lcd and i found my switch... but it's a PAIN INTHE ASS to press... I dont know how i'm gonna keep it depressed.... :/

While is open, take it out of its current location, solder two wires to it and mount it somwhere else (on the case). Drill a small hole so you can push it when you need it and you're done. Better yet, use a lager on-off switch or none at all. Just get the wires out! (whatever works 4 you)

Actually, I took a hot glue gun and made a little glue 'ball' or 'lump' and shaped it to a small wedge shape, then popped the little cap that's over the switch, then slid it in there. Works perfectly and you can't even tell that it's modded. then i can easily pop it out when i'm not using it.
