what makes the letus so good?

ICED OUT!

or for that matter, what makes any mini35 or DIY adapter a good product?
is it construction, GG , magnification glass, etc...?

From what I can tell... it reveolves around the GG and the macro. Everything else seems to be standard.

Sorry guys but this is much too funny to keep it for myself. If you see this:

from far behind, you'd think : wow... a car! (lol)
De luxe model here:

On a serious tone: quality or... "best bang for the buck" (which ever matters most to you)
Materials used ("GG", enclosure), ease of use, reliability, size, weight, compatibility with industry standards and... image quality (sharpness, light loss, etc)

When using the adapters, do you lose the ability to zoom since you have to zoom in on the focus sheet to get it to work in the first place?

You wouldn't want to zoom using the video camera lens seeing as it wouldn't give you the same effect as zooming normally would anyhow.

You can use a cinema zoom lens (or SLR zoom lens) on your adapter though, no problem.

Well what make it so good it... hhmmm it works very nice, it's price and it's light weight and the best part is customer support is the best. Nope I don't think it's the greatest of them all but at the 300.00 price, it just might be.

I bought one - have yet to test it. I'm looking forward to Dans model and the G35 - they seem like they're going to rock our world. Especially Dans design - i'm still trying to work out how he did it.

HE did his with a lot of time and money...that's why it's 2 grand. I have the Letus and a PDX 10 camera. Works perfect. I had to play with the setting "Aperture" a bit and bring the sharpness down buy just one to get rid of the grain. After that Very nice. I like to sharpen in post by 15-20% but it's just me...

I must disagree with you Craig. The REAL reason is not ONLY because I have spend over 15 months on the issue (indeed on my own) and financed all R&D and cost of living during this time. The real reason is because my aim (when I started this project) was film out from HD footage (still IS). With such a task at hand, there are no compromises (especially when it comes to image)

FYI: My cost (money I have to spend up front) on parts (I have to buy) for each MPIC is around US $750. . Yes. Parts ONLY. Not the case (parts and machining) not assembling, nothing but the required PARTS! Add some 45 h on assembly/machining/anodizing and you'll see me working for less than 7-11 wages/hour for one MPIC. But: why mess an image just because one (of two) filters is $65?
And why risk reliability using a 10c pager made in China motor? Just because the motor I use is $60 (Swiss made). Need I go on? (about the $45 Nikon mount usually sold on the net) ? I am sure you got the point. :)

On the "bright side"; last night I helped a friend set up his new high end projector.
I happened to remember I had with me the DVD I send out to customers (gear, FF and footage from MPIC) . I am happy I did remember about it. I saw the footage on the 7ft across wall (originated from that tiny GS200). I am confident now that HD footage CAN be printed on film and MPIC is up to that standard.

Thanks Dan

Thanks Dan

Of course I understood what's involved but maybe others didn't and thanks for clearing things up a bit. Do I wish I had yours... YEP, BUT as a hobby I just can't get it. BUT I might get the Follow Focus for my work and I'll e-mail you about that...

BTW, does anyone know what the name "Letus" means

Thank you Craig,
My wild guess on Letus meaning is "leave us alone", or "let us do it" or the alike.
Just a wild guess... Qyuen?

I am not stocking any of the expensive components. I do have a few housings and, subject to orders received, I order what I need to assemble them. I do not foresee a "mass phenomenon" due to price (low for the quality, imo).

dan,

any chance of you lowering the price of the unit or maybe wanting to let me test it on a camera (my camera) that you havent tested it on yet?
just thought I'd ask-

Panasonic GS120 - this is what I did the footage with that I sent you at your email address.
what do you say?

Most of the stills and footage from my site come from gs200. You can do the comparison yourself.
I took the mics out of gs200 to make the XLR available for boom work. No need to it anymore, as HDV is good enough and is here. I added a new album (few pics I took two days ago):
http://dandiaconu.com/gallery/album20
MPIC works on all cameras tested (no exceptions) Works as: clean, clear, sharp, no vigneting image.
I might have some new prices, (but don't hold me to it) and if works out, it will be in a few months. If the image quality is not there, I will not release it. What else can I say?

cool, Dan, that will work, but how did you take the mics out of the camera to add XLR for boom capabilities?

thanks,

Adam
