What libec tripod is best for HPX170?

I am looking to buy a libec tripod soon for my HPX170 and was wondering if the bigger models are suited to this smallish camera. I can buy an ls55 for around the same price as the ls38, but the ls55 is rated for cameras 13-22 pounds or so. Will my HPX170 be compatible with this or do I need the smaller ls38? I'm also looking at the ls22 but the main thing that is keeping me from it is the feet look way less secure than the others.

If anyone has some experience with the libec series please let me know how they will be suited for my 4.5 pound camera with about 1.5 pounds of accessories. :dankk2:

I use an LS-55 with my HPX170 solo all the time. However, I also load it up with a full 35mm adapter system depending on the shoot. If you're not planning on adding anything to your setup, the LS-55 might be slight overkill...

Cheers,

I have had a LS55 for just over a year and found it a great companion to my HVX-200.

However, just when the warranty ran out I noticed a little bit of play in the tilt axis. About 2 millimeters of movement that was very evident in the footage. I contacted Libec who put me in touch with the UK service agent. They knew what the problem was immediately and diagnosed a clutch problem. This is a known and common fault with this model and cost me £118.00 +Vat (including shipping) to fix.

I went for the LS 55 as it looked like a robust tripod but at just over a year of light use I am very disappointed that I have had to have it repaired and fully expect to have to have it done again next year.

Weenie.

I'll have at the minimum a Firestore drive mounted on the camera, be around 6 pounds or so which I may expand over time. Essentially what I am asking is if I can get the ls55 for the same price as the ls38 which should I buy? Will having the ls55 versus the 38 hurt me in anyway?

Has anyone else had problems with repairs of the clutch as weenie described?

Thanks!
