hello, here i am..at last after weeks of search, i am going to get my gh3 in a couple of hours. only body. so i am getting crazy for having a lens quick! my choice wooul go on the standar 14 140, as it is multipourpouse and might be not as bad as other len's kit. is that right? as i can't spend much more money now, is there any suggestion for other combination of lenses that would give me a good coverage, at good quality without spending big money?

i had nikon d3000 and then started to make video when switched to d5100. no experience with this kind of camera. i will shot for now footage for promotional, theatre, events, and going on to make some short movie...but now i am on the start mainly. aiming to make it as a paid job..but it is not now

I will probably pick up the new 2nd generation 14-140mm lens because it should be parfocal like the first generation, which is something sadly missing from my current 12-35mm / 35-100mm combo.

Having the 14-140mm kind of turns your GHx into an ENG camera, with it's 10x zoom ratio that can hold focus throughout it's range.

If you want a faster lens then I would go for the 12-35mm f/2.8 lens, otherwise I would wait for the new 2nd generation 14-140mm lens that should be available soon.
12 35 is expensive! and it cover a little part isnt' it?2nd generation of 14 140 it's brighter than original?
the fact is that i have the camera now..and i want to use it!now! :) i have a couple of nikkor dx lens.may be worthy to buy adapter to use it fot now?how muche cost the adapter?

Yes, but it's a very sharp lens and it's weather sealed, so you can use it in the rain or snow.

LUMIX G X VARIO 12-35mm f/2.8 : $960 at Amazon

2nd generation of 14 140 it's brighter than original?

Yes, 1/3 F-stop brighter and much better auto-focus when shooting video.

the fact is that i have the camera now..and i want to use it now!

Then you might want to look at these two lenses...

Lumix G Vario 14-45mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS : $319

Lumix G X Vario PZ 45-175mm f/4.0-5.6 OIS : $363

The 14-45mm lens is sharp at all focal lengths ( much better than the standard 14-42mm kit lens ), and the 45-175mm lens is parfocal and it has a powered zoom control.

Otherwise, I would look at the Olympus 17mm f/1.8 prime lens, Lumix 25mm f/1.4 prime lens, and the Olympus 45mm f/1.8 prime lenses. All of these lenses are both fast and sharp, with very good AF speed.

Anyone looking for a great, all around lens with an ideal focal length should check out the Oly 12-50mm.
Weather sealed, power zoom, internal zoom, effective 24-100mm...pick one up for about $250 so it's a no brainer.
Balanced out it's close to the speed of the Canon 24-105mm which is my favorite run and gun lens.
This is very similar on our GH3s.
My favorite lenses on the GH3 are the Oly 12mm, 45mm and 75mm, but when I want to just trek with one lens attached, the 12-50 is a gas.
I keep a .09 ND on it all the time so I can keep it in it's sweet spot, which is around f/4 - f/6.3 (it's only for outdoor work at this speed.)

does the oly works fully funcional and use all the function of gh3?i mean is it totally compatible with Panasonic, do i need adapter or whatsoever?

when the new 14 140 is expected to be released and at what price? basically i also need to understand what focal will be more used in video. i have experinced with nikon that while in stills i'll rather use 55/200 when in video was most of the time better 18/55. now 4.3 is almost the double, so that 14 42 would be like 28 84..is it?

$700, and I'm not sure about the release date. People are testing this lens right now, but B&H Photo shows a delivery date of September 30th. ( I am hoping that B&H is wrong on the release date )

Most Micro 4/3 cameras have a crop factor of 2x, so compared to a Full Frame sensor camera like a Canon 5D or Nikon D800, you would use a lens with half the focal length on a Micro 4/3 camera.

i.e. 24-70mm Zoom on a Canon 5D or Nikon D800 = 12-35mm Zoom on a GH3 camera

ok and what if compared to nikon d5100 (compare to that as it is what i know...). so 14 140 new..it is too long way to go. i need something for now...is actual 14 140 so bad?

reading the specs luminosity of oly seems the same than lumix..do yuo confirm?

Ok and what if compared to Nikon D5100

The Nikon D5100 has a crop factor of 1.5x, compared to the GH3 crop factor of 2.0x.

When converting from the D5100 FOV to a GH3 FOV, divide the lens focal length by 1.33x.

i.e. 24-70mm Zoom on a Nikon D5100 = 18-52mm Zoom on a GH3 camera

ok great. one thing i am trying to understand. i read some people saying that a lens is better than the other , then i go to read f spec and they are the same. how is this? example, someone toled me that 14 42 powerx is better than the standard one...but they have same f though the first have motor on zoom etc.. also the one you show me the 14 45 has the same f specs..how does it works?

ok i see...still don't see difference in term of light between 14 42 standard and power. they have the same f. quality should be the same..?i don't understand this. also there is a new parameter the f equivalent...so the 3.6 f on a 4/3 is supposed to be like 7.2 on ff and 4.68 on dx? tha would mean that my start f on dx 18/55 which is 3.6 is darker than 3.6 on 4/3? (sorry for all these dummies-... :) )
