what is your preferred indoor non-lav dialogue mic-cheap-reasonable-wish list?

i'm thinking about adding to my mic collection.

i do a far amount of indoor, talking head interviews.

i employ a lav on channel one (tram 50/sony ecm 77)

i employ on channel 2 a akg blueline ck93/hypercardioid or a rode ntg2.

most often i pump the two channels thru the non-d version of the sound devices mixpre.

occasionally, i go straight into camera and these days that is the sony fs100.

so, those in the know, care to offer up your choice for a non-lav indoor dialogue mic?

if so, a cheap-ish choice, a mid-priced choice and a wish-list choice would be helpful.

thanks in advance to those who care to play along.

be well.

What's wrong wth your CK93 hyper? That's the mic to use, though I would prefer the mid-priced standard, the AT4053b. But your CK93 is a solid mic designed for indoor dialog.

You have, as Chad pointed out, a really solid hypercardioid. Why not instead focus on upgrading your shotgun to an NTG-3, or expanding your lav selection?

I agree with the others - if you have a ck93, unless you're displeased with it for some reason, not much will happen until you get to the higher cost mics. The most commonly used ones there are the sennheiser MKH50 (or the new 8050) and the Schoeps mk41, both with their own benefits. If you search through the site I think there's a link to a big comparison that uses many mics in different price categories, including most of the mentioned.

You may instead want to rent a high quality shotgun mic to try out, like the mkh60 (or 8060), schoeps cmit-5u, or sanken CS3e. All of these are narrower than the hypers while still having an off-axis response that lets them be used in many interior locations.
