Hi
I am planning to buy a professional HD 1080i camcorder
and i am searching for a good one withing a price range of 3000$
i saw AG-HMC150,
Is it a good camera or not , i read about it and they said that it
does not have an optical zoom , does this a problem or they is something better in it than optical zoom . most camcorders comes with optical zoom like 20X ]
but this i did not read that it has one.

How did you see this cam,.
also there is no Firewire port or connection

does it better to film onto SDHC memory card or onto a MiniDv tape

thanks

It has optical zoom but not 20X.
It does have a wider focal length [28mm in 35mm terms].

I think its a great camera but for 1080i I don't know. If I had to guess I would think yes but I only shoot progressive.

To me SD [or any flash / solid state media] is better than tape.
No more head cleaning and loss images due to dirty tapes or worn out tape heads.

If I had to buy it again after having it for a few months now... I would buy it without thinking twice.

Is it a good camera?
Yes.

I see it as a great camera for independent film makers and corporate use.

I second all of that. Shooting tape stinks and YOU will get drop outs.. It's a guarantee... The other big advantage is the ability to load hours and hours of SD card material.. press transform go out to dinner or the beach and then come home to it being done. With mini DV you have to be there to load the tapes in and out...

I don't think there's a better camera on the planet for 3k.. That's why I bought one.. and will be buying one more.. and then hopefully a 3rd..

cheers

Then what i understood that:
1)) The camera has an optical zoom, but how much
does it equivalent to 20X optical zoom.
2)) Storing media onto SDHC memory card is much more better than Tapes.????
3)) Is this camera cam be used in studios???????????
4)) Do you advise me to buy this camera.
THanks

1) 12x equiv.
2) it's simpler, and easier than tape
3) Studios, I don't know
4) YES; but then my question would be: what will you be using it for?

Cheers

hi
thanks a lot for help, but
1)) Is This zoom better than 20x available in Sony HVR-V1U ???
2)) I am going to use it for making documentary films and wedding parties ??? Is is suitable for that purpose ??????
3)) Which is better Sony HVR-V1U or AG-HMC150 ????????????

I think you'd need to test them both to get an honest opinion.. your own. I like the 150 and think it will work to your benefit for several reasons. It's low-light, tapeless and the 60p option. For the cash it's awesome... but you will need to have an NLE and comp that can handle it and also be willing to be on the bleeding edge for a while. It's nice out here.. but can be a bumpy ride.

Sharif... listen to Justyn. He is right, you should rent it first and decide for yourself.

Also, many of your questions have been answered elsewhere on this website. Not that I'm discouraging you from asking questions... but do a little research. I see your a junior member... this place is a wealth of information. Take advantage of that and just spend a day or two reading some of the threads. I would start with the "HMC150 Questions Answered" thread. And it really is a days worth of reading by itself.

Also, bare in mind that many of your questions call for answers that are based largely on one's personal preference. One person's "good" is another's "bad". Again, you should rent one and try it out yourself to see if you like it.

Now, to answer one specific question... "3)) Is this camera cam be used in studios"... define "studios". Do you mean production companies? Televisions stations? I'm not quite sure as to your question, because I can think of a couple of different answers depending on what you mean by it.

I personally love this little camera. It's wonderful. But I would hate to see someone fork out $3500, plus more for all the accessories (tripod, mics, and such)... and find out it really doesn't work for them. This camera works for me and what I need. That may not be the same for you.

Again, rent one and just play with it. And read everything you can on this website. Also, check out Vimeo. there is almost 150 video uploaded so far shot with this camera.

I hope that helps.
