What is your choice for a pocket camera

Honestly, the ZS7 will blow the above two out of the water in regards to video. It is brand new so there is not a lot of video online yet (but there will be) http://vimeo.com/9956105

Even though the video content is lame, you can tell that this camera produces incredible sharpness, color and clarity (for a PaS). There is no question that this is the best HD video point and shoot on the market (for now). http://www.dpreview.com/news/1001/10012605panazs7.asp

just buy the best Canon SD series you can afford.

For P&S cameras canon rules all and has for some time. The latest models have HD video, i would not hesitate at all. It will also be the best pocket cam you can get for stills as well.

Honestly the LX3 or any PoS would not really work well for any pro work, if being used with a 5D or GH1, so I strongly suggest the Lumix ZS3. Much smaller and less expensive, records 720p AVCHD lite, which is a stellar format adn has lots of video functionality.

I would suggest ZS3 for a nice pocket cam that records great amateurish video, but I know the Lumix ZS7 is coming out soon also, which will be a step up and probably the best point and shoot cam on market when it is released. It will probably be around $400-500. I would hold out for that one.

This wouldn't be used for pro work. As I mentioned, just a everyday camera to capture nice pictures a descent HD video.

The LX3 is nice (had a chance to play around with it, in a local store). Luv the hotshoe. I think I'm going to look into the Lumix models coming out. I really like the avchd lite option.

Panasonic FZ35. I just got it and have been having fun. It's a SMIDGE big for your pocket (pants)...fits fine in my jacket. The super-zoom is INSANE. The .mts files avchd are a bit of a pain, but I think I have a workflow that works great. It's image stabilization is AWESOME....It also has MOST manual control (if not all)....I can tell it's going to have it's quirks...but every camera does. I'm VERY excited so far.

I had to chance to play with that one also in a local store. The zoom is awsome, also the manual controls is great. why didn't they put a hot shoe on that bad boy? Canon has a mega zoom also with hot shoe, I did like that one alot. I'm really excited about the new models of the Lumix with avchd lite.

I really don't want the size of the GF1 and Pens, but I breifly owned a Pen Lite (olympus e-pl1) and it's pretty nice. I used it with some of my older om mount lens . I returned it due to, 6 hot pixels in high ISO.

Canon is alright, I currently has a SD1000 that I like. I just want to upgrade to HD in a PS. I'm not really big on, one brand better than the other. So many other brands have great features and quality, but canon does have the SD960 for 199.99 and it getting some great reviews.
Sony has one the records 60i which will be great.
I'm seeing that Panasonic is doing so crazy (awsome) commercials for their new line.

Check out this review of the Lumix DMC-TZ7 and scroll down for a comparison to the Canon SX210 and the Sony DSC-HX5. It took me a long time to find this article and I think I definitely have it narrowed down to those three. They each have their pro's and con's but I'm leaning towards the Sony because it offers some unique features such as the isweep panorama and 10 fps burst mode!

I use a LUMIX LX3 and I love it. its the perfect pocket camera, and I'm working on a show for a gallery with the photos from this camera.

I don't use it to shoot video, however when I do its usually in areas i'm not supposed to shoot video.:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Wow! I can't believe it has been over 6 weeks since I posted this thread. I ended up buying a Nikon P100. No it's not a pocket camera, but captures great pictures and full HD video (not 720p). I've tried several cameras over the weeks Panasonic GF1, Olympus EPL-1, Sony HX5V, Panasonic Lumix (several models), Canon sx210, Canon sx20 and Panasonic Z35. I wanted to test the Fujifilm HS10, but noone has it around here. I know I'm forgetting a few other models.
Something I realized while testing all of these cameras. There is a wierd banding (purple-ish streak in video mode from light sources ) the mauals do warn you of this. You will hear the noise of zooming and autofocusing in audio of video. The more your camera is zoomed out (most of the cameras had a 10 plus zoom) the more jello effect (video) and blurred pictures will be. Use a tripod for pictures when taken in full zoom ( the in camera stabilization is good, but use a tripod). I think I made a great choice. Thanks for everyone help.

Ummmmm, I now have the Sony HX1. I was happy with the Nikon, but something to me to try the Sony. I was very surprise to see manual controls for video. The sony has different options for WB for video. All the other camera video modes were just stuck in auto. I hated the look of video yellowish video under certian lighting, but Sony gives several options to adjust the WB. There is also a Lowlight video mode that lightens the video in lowlight, it works very well. The IQ is very good. The only thing I hate is that it accepts only memory stick duo. Other manual options are NR, sharpening, contrast, color adjustments and others. Even though this is almost 1 year old, I think it has options that the current camera do not, but I think Sony will cut out some options with a new model. It seem like older cameras have better quailty than some of the new models.
