FS7: What is your best lens with your FS7

Personally Id avoid the SB in the main - seems to be a CA maker,

Also the 11-16 lens I know it works at the long end but I think using it with a booster sets one up to vignette shots by a mistake. Avoid.

I tend to keep my booster on the back of my 28-85

Boosters also ruin your close focus distance.

What about the Tokina 11-16mm with just a standard metabones adapter? Possibly no vignetting this way? Nice wide lens. I'd like to try it with the Nikon-Emount Metabones adapter I have.

Ok here's how the Tokina 11-16mm vignettes with a SpeedBooster Ultra:

And here's how it compares to the Canon 16-35mm. Both at 16mm, note how cool the Canon is by comparison.

These jpgs look soft. The original video is tack sharp in the centre, softening toward the edge, but not so much as to be a deal breaker.

Unless we're talking using the Tokina 11-16 on a M4/3 sensor camera why would anyone want to use it with a Speedbooster on a S35 sensor like we have on the FS7, F5/55 etc.? Who in the real world needs wider then a 11mm?.. For those of you new to this lens or considering buying it, it is a fantastic lens and a bargain to boot but is notoriously soft in the corners when shot wide open at 2.8 especially at 11mm but it really shines at 5.6 / 8.

Like Liam said, it works fine with a normal adapter.

Thanks for that. And thanks to the others. I assumed it would not cover the sensor if on the Ultra.

'Preciate it,

I am trying to buy mostly Nikon F mount lenses which would then use my Ultra to mate to the FS7. I have Nikon FX DSLR's.

I might get the EF mount version someday and cash in my entitlement to a standard Metabones.

Robert, I have a bunch of great Nikon lenses I will be selling as I make the trip to the dark side .
Zooms & ZF duclos cinemod primes.

What are you looking for ?

Picked up a near new 11-16mm Tokina Nikon mount today for $400 Aus which is about $330 US. I'll use it with the regular Metabones adapter. Along with the Sigma18-35 & Sony 18105G, this is going to do me for now lens wise. I had the Tokina in a Canon mount a few years back. I know it's a decent lens for what I do

I still don't understand your concern with Canon lenses.

I'll use my Canon EF-S 17-55/2,8 IS with no problem on a standard Metabones Smart Adapter (Mark II).

- aperture changes are just fast enough in green mode:
1 turn of the iris dial is 1 stop (1/3 increments)
2 clicks on the handgrip dial is 1/3 of a stop (1/3 increments)

- advanced mode gives you focus distance, depth of field bar, zoom bar on display
iris dial as above
14 (!) clicks on the handgrip dial for 1 stop (1/7 stop increments)

-IS works nice

- perfect focal range

- perfect optical quality even wide open

- focus dial is 90 degrees from near to infinity focus
a bit on the short side, but perfect for fast changes in R+G

- close to parfocal, but not perfectly parfocal
focusing at 55mm and zooming out within interview distance works at f4
but is critical at f2,8 and 4k

If 1 click (instead of 2) in green mode is 1/3 of stop = perfect
or
1 click of the handgrip dial is 1/7 of a stop = perfect

I have two setups for any S35 camera:
1. Leica R primes (w NikF mount mod), 28, 35, 50, 90. Sharp with character, Summicrons not too ridiculously priced used.
2. 3 zooms: Tokina 11-16, Sigma 18-35, Sigma 50-150 (all Nikon mount). I use a non-boosted Metabones adapter for E and a Novoflex adapter for EF, and whatever adapter I can rent for sony F3/5/55. Close enough to cinema zooms for my uses, excellent picture from all 3.

I've also used the Sigma 10-20/3.5, works well and makes a nice Sigma triad, but hadnt been motivated to buy one yet.

Nikons get the nod for me because they'll adapt mechanically to almost anything, can be infinitely, smoothly, and quickly stopped up or down on anything with the right adapter, and obliterate any chance of electronic operational glitch. IS is better handled at the camera support level, IMO.

Again: Yess!

Manual iris + IS would be perfect.
At least for me the 17-55 is the most useful standard lens. A little bit on the short side
for interviews, but you can still go close enough and have wides with the same lens.

Is the Tokina 11-16mm (EF mount) vignetting on 11mm with a normal EF-NEX adapter? (not metabones)
Also can you change the Iris via handgrip?

What do you mean by a normal (not Metabones) adapter?

I have tried it with both Metabones E to EF as well as with Commlite. No vignette and iris adjusts via dial. Of course, it can't work with a Speedbooster since it is not a full-frame lens.

Just got my speed booster and only looked at Tokina for a second.. Wow f2 - super wide . Didn't check sharpness at all. Quicklook it didn't seem too distorted.
