FS7: What is your best lens with your FS7

My experience was if you set the menu to correct the distortion in the 18-105 (distortion control "auto") then it screws up the LUT choices. They all have to be the same - i..e if you want a LUT in CINE EI - you have to record it also. Sent it back.

Re Nikon Lenses with metabones:
<stuff removed>
I believe for some reason the Metabones might be listed as Nikon F adapters
<stuff removed>

That reason being they adapt the F mount lenses. G in Nikon speak means no aperture ring. There is no G mount in the Nikon universe.

Personally I just think AF lenses suck for focus pulling and think that with good poise handheld footage has life - IS footage has robot cam feel - you start to pan, lead off the IS and then it catches up

Me? manual lenses - shoot handheld, enjoy the feel or use sticks/dolly etc

One lense that is not too shoddy to focus is canon and nikon 70-200f4 that I think are highly under-rated (low mass = good!)

Most nikkor 24-70 and 17-55 ive tried have that little jerk that means you cant pull focus smoothly (and 24-105 the same)

I read that but I don't think I experienced it. I will check.

Check it - its a mean surprise!

Sam - I'll check that IS issue. Haven't really looked at footage to be honest just noticed its smoother.

Re: 24-85 its pick your poison. I want faster f 2.8 and above all I want the iris to be steady through the zoom. At least with 24 -105 I can get 2.8 with speed booster.

Ben,

Tokina 11-16 works well - on Metabones Ultra this is useable 14-16mm
Canon 16-35 works well.
I don't have a 24-105, but my 24-70mm MkI is shocking.
Canon 70-200 2.8 IS MkII works well.
I haven't got a 100-400, so don't know about that one.

Along with my 24-70mm, I had major issues with 85mm 1.2, 50mm 1.2 and 24mm 1.4. 14mm and 35mm 1.4 work well, as do both 50mm 1.4 and 85mm 1.4. It seems my Metabones has it in for the heavy L series primes, just as well the lighter, cheaper alternatives look great!

Thanks Liam. I've got my fingers crossed for the 24-105 as my main "donkey" workaday lens - here's hoping... will post back once the FS7 is out of the box.

Cheers,

Ben.

It would appear the Tokina 11-16 is only available in DX/APS-C versions. So the focal length would not be 14-16 on a FX Ultra, right?

What is the right conversion equation for DX/APS-C with an FX Ultra?

Robert

That was a quote from Liam and I copied the wrong line anyway.

conversion factor from any Full Frame lens to APS -C size sensor (Fs7) is .71
thus 70mm becomes aprox aprox 50mm

But my question was, what's the conversion from APS-C to the FS7 if using the Metabones Ultra that concentrates the light.

So what do I have in 35mm equivalent if I take an 11-16 APS-C Tokina F Mount and hook it to my F mount Ultra and connect the lot to the FS7?

If the lens is designed for APS-C, not "full-frame", then it isn't designed to work properly with a speed booster. At a minimum, you're likely to have vignetting in the corners - both darker and with less sharp focus. Worse, you may have an actual porthole effect, where the lens doesn't cover the entire sensor area.

\Wjat do you mean by shocking ?
Also what's an FX Ultra ?

By shocking I mean the aperture control. Optically it's great, but it can take 15 seconds to adjust the f/stop one moment, it might lock up the next & then behave reasonably well the next.

L:iam , does the Tokina actually look good at that range - corners OK?
Do you get extra stop of light & around 10-11mm focal length equiv.
That would be cool and a surprise.

IT behaves the same as any other lens on a speedbooster - extra stop & reduced focal length. I'll post some pictures in an hour or two so you can see the vignetting & edge sharpness etc.
