Just wanted to know how many member work in the industry independent or not, theatre as well or music (if we talk about audio/music guys), how many are students in this (filmmaking, acting, editing) and how many have nothing to do with the previous 2.

:)

My work includes VFX, film and video shooting for litigation along with a heavy amount of forensic animation. ... However, in my work I get NO experience with narrative form and precious little opportunity for creativity. Thus, while I have a lot of technical chops for effects of all kinds, I've had little opportunity to develop lighting, directing and camera skills.

I forgot to post mine...well I am a Dilbert....my connection with all this before doing my first short was ...well....watching thousands of films and tv productions...and some part-time writing in movies-related e-zines...

I work in the IT industry as an IT consultant. So my work has to do with lots of reading and lots of writing....think that shows well in here :)

I'm kind of a combination of all three. I study film (independently, I have no formal training). I do professional video work, yet I still have a standard day job.

i'm a film and new media student at the university of nebraska. i occasionally volunteer at local access channels, mostly just sporting events. i do wedding videos, slideshows, and photography on the side. -- as for making a living, i work at a local bank.

Hey Kyle,

I spend a great deal of my time these days in Denver and Kansas City. I've got a good friend in Omaha that I've been promising to see for a long time. Maybe I can figure a way to swing your direction. How far is Omaha from Lincoln?

I think Mark just wants in on your bank robbery movie :)

hey Mark, What shows do you do the Forensic stuff for.... I am wondering if we may have worked on something somehow together, or with some of your animations/ recreations. I used to edit Forensic Files and Medical Detectives for Court TV and TLC.

well, straight from lincoln to omaha is about an hour drive. -- you could head to omaha and maybe that night you and your buddy can meet me and another buddy of mine in downtown omaha. i've driven there several times, it would be just a little skip over to me.

he is performance major, but is enthralled with AE... I'm sure he would love to hear some of your stories (as would i!)

he's from arkansas, so i'm sure he would love to see the old market. (in omaha)
just let me know

Grant, our forensic work is almost exclusively "real" and not show-related. We are typically hired to either assist in the forensic analysis of cases or we are retained to produce a visualization that is used in court. We do a lot of bullet trajectory stuff and get involved in a lot of airplane crashes. For the latter we are often called upon to recreate the flight dynamics from the event recorder data or we get called to build the aircraft and produce an animation showing the part failure.

Having said that, our work has been shown on CourtTV a lot. Just the other day I saw a show on police chases that heavily featured work we did to show the movements of the chase through Long Beach.

I'm a HUGE fan of forensic files but have never met anyone associated with its production. We've had a bunch of our stuff shown on morning news shows (Today, GM America, CBS Morning) and back about 2001 my animation in the downing of an Italian Ski Gondola by a Marine Prowler jet was the basis of the lead segment on 60 Minutes with Mike Wallace.

I've done some stuff for the History Channel too, but 90% of our forensic work is either big transportation disasters, police shootings or murder cases.

Gotcha. And now you have met someone :) well, sort of... anyhow, nice to meet you. The work you do sounds very interesting. Do you have a facility in LA? You by chance would not happen to be going to HD expo at the end of the month?

Grant

I'm trying to work it so I can. I do have an office and testing facility at a little airport in Upland (west of Pasadena between Clairmont and Rancho Cucamonga). I'm way overdue to get down there and I'm hoping to get back in time to attend the EXPO. I'd love to hook up witcha and, in fact, I'm supposed to be shooting over in Ranchos Palos Verdes this month so I'll just schedule it around the Expo. Let's make plans to meet there ok? Maybe more L.A. users can chime in and we can have a little impromptu get together.

Well I am not from LA, but I am presenting at the Expo. So I WILL DEFINATELY be there. I will be showing a few different products. Bluefish 444, Boris FX and EditShare are among them. I would love to meet you, or anyone else from the group that will be there.

Not to completely hijack the thread, but is there a link to the HD expo? I went to CineExpo earlier this year and even though 99% of the stuff was out of my league it was cool to attend and gawk at the gear. Everyone should wear the DVXuser film crew ID holder or T-shirt!

I'm in the military and have nothing to do with this at work, I can't even bring a cell phone with a camera to the place I work. But i could come up with some good footage if I could!

I work for a small production company (been there for three years) that does mainly industrial and promotional videos, but they're starting to get into more narrative stuff, as they've seen some of my other work. Hoping they get behind a feature this spring.
