What is wrong with this Konova slider?

I know how you feel. Which one would you recommend?

Honestly, about the only type of slider that's never let me down is the solid steel rod design, like the Cinevate Atlas 30 & K2. Both are really heavy (K2 more than Cinevate) but they have never let me down, besides having to clean once in a while they are solid. I've had my K2 for over three years and I shoot every week (my sliders get extremely heavy use) & its just been there on every shoot, same goes for Cinevate (sold it to buy the Konova & Kessler pocket dolly).

I also have the Kessler pocket dolly and that works, but once in a while, especially after air travel I have to re-align and clean it, plus its more vulnerable to damaging the rail system, its not solid steel, but it works and is light and smooth, but far from the perfect slider by far and its expensive for what it is. Kessler's sliders are all based on the same rail design, so I assume they all fall out of alignment easily, but I haven't used all of them.

I've also used the Cinevate FLT & Atlas 10, great concept and weight, but again the bearing and carriage design is just too fiddly, constantly needs cleaning and alignment.

Personally I'm sticking to the K2 & Kessler for now, just waiting for a lighter and smaller Atlas 30, I've given up on all other slider designs.

oh, yeah, I recommend the Atlas 30 if you can afford it, probably the best slider out there.

sorry for the rambling, but another reason the solid steel rod design is great is you can buy the rods on ebay for cheap, I have 2', 3' & 5' rods, takes 5min to switch them out, makes yours slider so much more versatile.

I mostly use sliders on wedding. Which one are good enough to use on one tripod? The thing I hate the most about Konova is that it flexes when you slide from one side to another using a tripod.

Dude, I think they all do that, I tried using it on the tripod and they all flex, on a beefy head like the 504HD my Pocket dolly does alright, but it still flexes a bit, you can see it in the footage.

That's weird, I use this slider call the DP slider and it doesn't seem to flex. But how much flex are you talking about? The konova probably does 2-3 inches of flex and it is extremely noticeable.

Maybe I'm confused or you are referencing wrong model#, but first you say this

Konova sliders are useless, one of my bearings went out after a month of use, I called and ordered a new one (which btw they made me pay for), they sent me the wrong bearing, I've tried calling and email, they wont return any of my msgs or calls. Bad customer service and poorly designed products, sounds like a fail. I also have a K2, Cinevate & Kessler sliders, all of them work great and are easier to clean and maintain, just way heavier and bulkier than I need.

Soon as I get the new bearing I'm putting it on ebay, worthless gear, save your money.

I've got two buddies who also used Konova all having issues with their sliders.

.....and then you say the K2 is one of your bst sliders

Sorry I should have specified, Konova just recently released the K2 version, I'm talking about a company called K2, they're out of business now.

Cool - Thanks for the clarification

I just bought the K5 with motor....wish I would have read this thread first. I somehow missed it on my initial search for information....oh well.

I'll update the thread on how things work out, fingers crossed lol!

2-3 inches is extreme, I'm talking about an 1inch maybe less and I can still see it in the footage, but I'm really anal about slider shots. I think the DP slider has less flex because it has a much wider base than the Konova.

Hey, you might love it, we all have our preferences, but for excessive use I personally don't think Konova is up to the task. But, neither are any of the other sliders that have the same design, you might have better luck with the K5 than I did with my K3, best of luck dude

Well, the slider itself seems quite nice for basic movement. The crank assembly fits perfectly and also works well. I haven't REALLY put it through it's paces yet so I won't give it a complete thumbs up but initial signs are good with manua movement and the crank shaft. The motor on the other hand......I am presently trying to attach the motor to the mounting plate but the provided screw doesen't fit in the into the channel cut out in the mounting plate. Seems like poor quality control which is odd as the rest of the unit is relatively well built. I am in a holding pattern for mounting the motor until I hear back from Konova's customer service....I will return to report my experience.

My fault, Didn't lock down my tripod head all the way hehehe, what kind of head do you put on it to take the camera on and off quickly?

Picked up a Rhino slider a couple of days ago, gotta say so far I'm impressed, I was going to go back to the Atlas 30, decided to give the Rhino a try, the carbon version is super light weight, extremely smooth and quite, time will tell if the build quality holds up, but initial reaction is extremely positive, also the Rhino guys are local, I actually went down to their shop and played with it before I bought it, if it breaks, I'll just stalk them till they fix, lol.
