Hello All,

I am a newbie and was about to buy the Camera from new egg. I have seen prices (without lookin very hard) from $1400 to $5,000. They all say usa warranty too?

Ideas?

Hi rastargate,
Check out the authorized dealers sticky. They'll point you in the right direction.

I went with B&H and they're awesome, but Abel, EVS, etc are reputable places to shop.

DVX prices have gone up since I purchased mine in March. I paid $2800 ($3200 - $400 rebate), and now you will pay $3150 after the rebate.

If I were in the market for a DVX today, I think that the best course of action would be to wait for a price drop (which might not happen until Panasonic releases something new).

Any authorized dealer is going to run you about 3500. the 1500 dollar prices you see are just the body themselves generally with no battery, eyecup, or strap. JUST the body itself

But don't worry they'll sell you a battery for 300.00 and the charger for another 400 and a 50.00 tripod for 500.00.. and all this will come in 3 months after being on "backorder."

Thanks! I thought I was going mad... :)

Just went through the same thing about 6 weeks ago. There is no substitute for peace of mind when shelling out relatively massive amounts of money. You'll love your DVX.

I agree! Paying a bit extra for peace of mind is Definately worth it in the end!

If the price isn't in line with New York's prices (B&H), then you take the risk of being scammed. Also make sure that you get a USA warranty. The legitimate price for a new dvx100B is right around $3500.00 plus tax.

good luck with your panasonic rebate though. make sure you don't need that cash for a good 8 or 9 months.

Aw man really? Thats no good. 8 freaking months. Oh well, it will be sweet when one gets it in the mail.

I wonder why someone would want a SD canera at a time when HD cameras are really affordable. Maybe the Canon A1 or Sony V1E would be a better choice. More "future-proof" so to speak. But then again, the "look" of the image that DVX provides is out of this world.

I was tining the same thing. The resale on this is pretty good So I depending on how I like this I might move up into the HVX. From everything I read for the money the dvx was still the best bet

Fugitive,

I just bought a new 100B at the beginning of August and made the decision for SD only because it fits what I'm doing now - training videos and local interest programs.

In countless forum posts on many video sites the question of going to HD still rages on with many pros and cons. The reality is HD is still in it's infancy and SD will still rule for a number of years.

I'd rather buy an HD camera after the dust settles.

Ken :)

Yeah, I bought my 100B and filled out the rebate forms back at the end of April, and I just got my check on Sept. 11th. It's been so long, I nearly forgot about it. Feels like found money!

We sell a lot of HVX's, Z1's, A1U's, and HD110's... but to this day, the DVX is still our best seller.

As one poster mentioned: it's proven, it's a standard here in Hollywood, and the picture is phenomonal!

It's almost like a virus... it's the 28 Days Later of video cameras...

I bought an 100b in August as well. Though many here seem to be buying HD, those that I know in my area have bought the HVX but are shooting SD with them when working for clients and doing their own stuff on HD. There is still and will be lots of room for SD for quite a while. HD Broadcasting is slowly making its way to everyones home...slowly. For the money and the quality of images/flexibility you get out of a 100b it is a freakin' steal! I wish I had got smart when the 100a was released instead of waiting. Besides it should be a "no brainer" tobuy a $3500 dollar camera and have it payed for while making you money in less thatn a year.

Hi,

Virtually any price under $3400 is a bit suspect and generaly sold with other things to offset the low price, is a gray market camera and will not pass the muster on the rebate and freebies here in the US. Buy carefully and make sure that you are getting a Panasonic US warranty. ;-) It is the Panasonic that is the key word here. When you get the camera, it should have a letter for Panasonic thanking you for your purchase. If it doesn't it is gray and send it back.

Best,

Jan
