What is the "RED X" and timecode resets?

A "Red X" has been displayed on my LCD monitor in the past and I'm not sure what it means. I've heard this mentioned in another post but couldn't find out what it means?

Details: I have a DVX100A with about 125hours of use. Yesterday was the first time I cleaned the heads and that was for 10sec with the Panasonic cleaner tape- which I have now read that you shouldn't use.

It occured sporadically throughout my last 2-3 shoots and I was still able to record. However, I have noticed several timecode breaks- and I'm talking a lot- but only between start/stop record. Also, I've noticed when I stop recording, the camera heads seem to continue to move when they shouldn't and the timecode resets to 0:00:00 and then either identifies the timecode again or not.

Since cleaning the heads, I've used it for an hour with no problems. But I didn't have severe problems in the past either.

Basically, I want to know what the red x means and the issue with the timecode resetting- and I didn't push the reset button myself.

Thanks,

Marty

I have had that problem with my DVX as well. From my understanding it is a dirty head indicator. I did alot of outdoor dusty shooting had the exact same symptoms you are describing. I used the cleaning head and it went away. I also had that problem when one of my jerk friends stuck a sony tape in my dvx. Make sure you stick with one brand of tape. Different brands have different lubes and they can clog up the heads. Take it easy.
