what is the lowest our shutter will go? I want like 1/15th

I am trying to achieve the blur look in Chungking Express where you have one actor not moving and the rest of the scene moving fast and you get a really awesome effect, but you need a sloooow shutter to get it and when I hit my shutter button it doesn't go nearly as slow enough. Am I missing something?

The slowest shutter is no shutter, just the CCDs capturing for the entire frame duration. In the case of 24p or 24pa that would be 1/24th of a second. You can't go any slower than the frame rate.

I forget exactly, but it's not so hard. In one of the lower menus you can assign the USER buttons different functions and slow shutter is one of them. When you're not recording, hit that button, and wait a few seconds and you'll go into slow shutter speed mode. 1/6th is selectable and I'd guess is close to what War Kong Wai and Christopher Doyle used, but it's been a while since I've seen the movie.

Slow Shutter is only applicable on a DVX100A, not on the original DVX100.

To use Slow Shutter, first you ahve to assign one of the USER buttons to "SLOW SHUTTER". Then press that button. Then cycle through the slow shutter speeds -- depending on what mode you're in (30p, 24p, 60i) you can get it down to 1/3 or 1/4.

When in progressive-scan mode, dropping the shutter below the frame rate will also result in dropping the frame rate -- so if you shoot 24p at 1/6, you will effectively get 6 frames per second, each frame duplicated 4 times.

Think i posted this in another thread way way back...anyway...

If you are using DVX100(or any camera that doesn't have slow shutter), just shoot normally. In post, for all the clips that you want to have the strobey effect, increase the speed of the clip by 500%. Then export the speed up clip. Then u reimport the sped up clip and slow it down to 20%. You will get back the same clip length as the original clip but with strobe now. (amount of strobe can be controlled by amount you speed up in the first step) it's troublesome, i know...but wat the heck...lol ^_~

This was inspired upon reading that they did step printing to get that kinda look.

What effect can adjusting the shutter speed have on shooting lightning with the DVX100A? Is it better to shoot in the slow shutter speeds available through the User buttons, and adjust the iris accordingly?
