Hi everyone,
A post by IamLoser said the Set up level from the 100a is different than the level from the 100 reg. I have been following a thread on 2pop that had me believing I needed to buy a Canopus or a Procamp to fix my video levels for monitoring on set. I really need some solid knowledge here. If I set up to bars from my DVX100A to a monitor that expects 7.5IRE are my blacks reliable or are they wrongly represented. And should I record at 0 or 7.5 IRE to tape. Hmmm...

Thanks in Advance,
Steve Karr

Re: What is the Black level of an "A"

Steve,
The setup level on the 100A is selectable between 0 and 7.5.
The bars generated by the camera are dead on when viewed on WF/Vectorscope. I'd set up the field monitor to the camera bars and adjust your selected scene file to look best on the monitor. I figure that any small variances can easily be corrected in your NLE. Most folks I know record at the DV standard of 0 and add setup in post if necessary.
Hope this helps.

they have the same options for setup. only the "A" model was corrected so that there s actually a 7.5 ire difference between th 0 and 7.5 setting. on the reg dvx there was only about a 3.5 or so difference. ...and no it doesnt really matter.

Re: What is the Black level of an "A"

the reg 100 doenst have color bars in the 24p mode, but otherwise yes., and to answere the original question, the bars are fine at either level pending what your doing on the 100 a, they were slighlty corrected from the 100 version..see above post. anyway imho you really only need color bars to calibrate multiple cameras/monitors to eachother. otherwise you only need to worry about your colors on your editing monitor(unless your really picky about what colors are there during capture- or some other reason ..i just dont find it to be that important), cause generally the dvx lcd is pretty much very accurate, and wysiwyg.

I am going to shoot DVD for German Television in 24p what is the ire in 24p? Do I need to worry about it? And what does the black balance have to do with the process? Thanks for the help. 8)

Re: What is the Black level of an "A"

the initial setup ire in 24p is whatever you set it at .. either 0 or 7.5. it just doesnt have colorbar output on the originall dvx. it doesnt really matter which one you set it at though.  as long as you video is within the broadcast limits on output, and you can add the 7.5 setup if you like, but the dvd player will most likely add it for you if you dont, or the tv will.  i pretty sure that alot of dvds dont have setup, and therfore are darker on the computer monitor..which is what i would probably do. so you can see true black  on the computer at least.it looks better.
