What is the best audio wireless system?

I'm not ready to purchase it yet but I'm wondering what is the best wireless system out there. I'm basically looking for wirelessly transmitting audio from a mixer main out or mic to my camera. Any suggestion is much appreciated.

Sorry, I hate to use your post as an example, but are you honestly looking for "the best", or did you have a budget figure in mind?

You might also give us your location, as different places have different regulations on the max power output on transmitters.

All the best!

Dave

Thanks for the reply. I like to know what is the best out there so if I'm settling for a cheaper version, I know what I have compare to what is the ultimate system that's available. I am currently have not budgeted for this purchase since I'm not ready yet but I'm thinking about $300 to $1,000 depending on how soon I'll need and for what situation.

Thanks, David.

Okay, so I've found Sennheiser EW 100 ENG G3-B omni-directional clip-on microphone kit system on Amazon but if I purchase this one, do I need to worry about the following?

Consumer Alert: Most users do not need a license to operate this wireless microphone system. Nevertheless, operating this microphone system without a license is subject to certain restrictions: the system may not cause harmful interference; it must operate at a low power level (not in excess of 50 milliwatts); and it has no protection from interference received from any other device. Purchasers should also be aware that the FCC is currently evaluating use of wireless microphone systems, and these rules are subject to change. For more information, call the FCC at 1-888- CALL-FCC (TTY: 1-888-TELL-FCC) or visit the FCC’s wireless microphone website at http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/wirelessmicrophones.

Given what's happening with the repurposing of the UHF spectrum in the United States, it might be a better idea to go with a Sennheiser BAND A (516-558 MHz) system.

Also, the Sennheiser G3 stock lav mic isn't great ( but it's much better than the previous G2 stock mic ), so I would look at replacing this mic if you want the best quality sound from your UHF system. I am a big fan of the Oscar SoundTech OST lav mics.

The 500 Mhz range is currently legal in the US and AFAIK the FCC has no current plans to auction it off (as is in process for the 600 Mhz range and will soon be illegal like the 700 Mhz).
An expensive system does not guarantee trouble-free operation, set-up and frequency selection are huge factors. The newer Ghz systems make it a bit easier to find and maintain a clear channel but pros and cons exist. None are as reliable as hardwired.

The BEST wireless system is NO wireless system. A $30 cable is far more reliable than a $3000 wireless sytem

It wasn't clear from your question whether you are using this wireless hop to your camcorder as the PRIMARY audio, or whether it is just for a "scratch/sync track" on the camera?
If you are only doing a scratch/sync track, you could even try a budget low-end solution like one of the Azden VHF or 2.4GHz systems.

I have ten channels of wireless and they are all Lectrosonics.

Now if only I had put that money that I spent on my first Lectro system back in the 90's in Apple stock instead...

Best is just such a stupid word on it's own. Best in a particular circumstance or best in a budget compromised one, or tons of others. Over the years, Sennheiser, Sony, lectorosonic, audio ltd, and others have been called best. Oddly, it's the owners who call their favourites 'best'. Me, it would be Sennheiser, because I have a pile of them. I don't own any of the others mentioned here, so they may be best, but not for me.

We have around 12 channels of sennheiser in every studio here at work and I also use sennheiser G2 at home. As others have said a £10 cable will perform better audio wise but other systems are good too if they are working OK.

The "best" system out there is whichever one works well for you within your budget and desired feature set.
