yes that's the whole idea...

use rocketindie and you ARE distributing the film by yourself.
What we do is empower you to do it.
We take care of the transaction and fulfillment stuff (and if you need it provide you a killer deal on high quality DVD productions (details to follow on the rocketindie website)...so you have way less hassle.

p.s. there are a couple of people already signed up - but keep it coming

Don't tease us!

nice! really cool you guys put this together. the indi world needs some healthier alternatives to whats out there now.

This sounds like a great system. I will definitely give it a good look when I complete my film. I love the DIY filmmaking culture that has emerged in the last few years. This continues the trend in a very cool way.

So, is the service up and running yet? I'm just finishing a DVD, and RocketIndie looks great for me, but I need to get it shipping ASAP without any hitches or delays.

I have a new movie: BUTTERFLIES IN THE WIND.

It's a feature film, 97 minutes long. It was shot on 35mm and now I'm interested in selling it myself on DVD from my websites.

BUTTERFLIES IN THE WIND was invited by the Ava Gardner Film Festival in Smithfield, North Carolina. It had its World Premiere on Sept. 27th, 2007.

I found indieflix.com on Myspace and shipped the film to them on DVD. They're going to put it up for sale on Nov. 27th, 2007.

The deal with indieflix is a non-exclusive deal, so I can sell DVDs directly myself. And I can use other services, such as yours.

I'd like to give Rocketindie a shot. At this point I don't have glass-mastered DVDs.

How many DVDs do you need to get the ball rolling?

What are the acceptance criteria?

My movie is PG-13, drama. The trailer is at:

Hey,

This sounds like a great idea I'd like to try... would like to hear from other indie filmmakers who have gone this route. Would love to hear your feedback.

Chris

Hey,

Unfortunately the one company they work with requires you to commit to a 1000 DVD order. For me being from Canada that is quite expensive!

Nick,

I'd like to try this service but just wondering if it is feasible for me being A) I have a very limited budget and B) I am in Canada. Is shipping going to kill me?

Chris

The $29 is a monthly fee right, because I'm sure my DVD's wouldn't sell 50 a month. Also, what is the estimated cost to have a DVD and cover designed, like $0- $250 etc. Thanks.

Hmm

Hmm

I think that if you sell less than 50 a month it's probably less necessary to have a service to fulfill orders anyway, but that's just me. This is a great idea, though, for sure, because it's something I've thought of a lot as far as distribution goes for smaller budget projects. Clearly the goal is to find a major distributor, but not every project warrants that.

I'm thinking of this fairly inexpensive, but hopefully highly professional educational video (martial arts) and it's the kind of thing where this service might be awesome to use.

Rocketindie etc.

Rocketindie etc.

ok a few changes to announce.
Sorry I've been quiet for so long - been busy as usual - but amongst other things doing lots of upgrades to Rocketindie.

The client base is increasing slowly and we are getting better at our supplier relationships aswell.

For example - for high volume orders we have a direct relationship with a supplier in China who gives us great deals at 5000 discs or more.
Now I realise many may scoff at this since they are trying to figure out how to put together money for 1000 DVDs....it's important to know this as an order for say 5000 Digipaks with a US supplier could cost anywhere from 12000-16000 USD...whereas our chinese supplier will do it for under $6000 including shipping.

Anyway - so as not to leave our DIY filmmakers in the dark here - We have decided to simplify the packages - as it happens for a low volume order (and yes the minimum is still 1000 discs) it DOES make sense to use a US supplier as the shipping costs end up killing you.

The new cost is (for 1000 Full color offset printed discs on DVD-5, Black amaray case) - $1500 all inclusive.

Bear in mind this includes ALL costs including shipping to the Rocketindie warehouse (And creation of mail ready DVD's - i.e. they are all inserted into mailers ready to be sent out). If you can beat that anywhere else - please tell me.

For those of you who have asked what the criteria are to get started it's simple.

There are none. We created Rocketindie to service filmmakers like ourselves - whatever you have made - we can make the discs help you take orders and fulfill them for you.

Our minimum to get started is 300 DVDs - but of course getting 300 DVDs glass mastered costs almost the same as getting 1000. The reason the limit is 300 is for those of you who are shall we say "risk-averse" and want to dip your toe in the water first.

The service is fully functioning but is also constantly getting upgraded.

By all means get stuck in there and give it a shot.

Nick

p.s. for the distributionnally curious amongst you - we are close to finalising a home video deal on our film "Shadow Company" (which was self distributed theatrically in LA, SC, Chicago and NY - at no cost to us - the cinemas booked the film) - the point being that the home video deal STILL allows us to continue selling DVDs of the film ourselves from our website via Rocketindie.

How do you adress the issue of the dup house in china making more of your film and selling it. Thats my only problem with replication/duplication in asia especially china. My first documentary i opted to do it in the US for the piece of mind that they wouldnt run extra few thousand copys.

I konw that most of the films probably wouldnt interest the chinese but there is still that chance. Is there anyway that you can assure that no extra copies are being made of the films?

I would love to be part of this uprising but i just need some info, thanks.
