What is RocketIndie? (FAQ)

It's pretty easy to find deals for 5,000 DVDs here with professional packaging for about 80 cents a DVD... I've never seen anyone try to charge $12,000 for just 5,000 DVDs. I found a place that can do it for like 50 cents a DVD if you order 10,000 or more, and anything over 1,000 is just about $1.25 at most.

vis-a-vis the dub houses. unfortunately no there is no easy way to address that.
To be honest I'm not sure there's any way to address that concern for any form of manufacturing outsourcing to china (DVD, toys, consumer electronics or otherwise) - but you are right - odds are that they won't be interested in anything that they cannot sell because Cameron Diaz is in it (or equivalent).

As it happens the facility is in no way hidden (meaning they have a clear address, contact point, phone number etc) i.e. they are unlikely to be a sham - but it is China and you never know.

As for the price points - a couple of things here

1. First and foremost - we have found a much better supplier so the prices are lower
2. Second (and if I'm reading between the lines correctly that is more relevant to your query) - it's important to compare apples with apples in this case.
The 1000 dvd basic Rocketindie order comes to our warehouse from the Replication plant with EACH disc individually packaged.

That means - NOT only is each disc (which btw is a DVD-5 with offset printed full color artwork) individually packed in an Amaray case - but also it is then put into a mailer (either bubble or cardstock) and sealed and shipped in bulk to the warehouse.

I have spent a great deal of time (alongside working to redevelop the software for interfacing with the warehouse) finding the most cost effective supplier who will still deliver quality material - however I would love to offer a better deal to Rocketindie people if there is one to be had...

So if you're saying there are suppliers who will deliver 1000 DVD-5's to you as detailed above (mailers etc) INCLUDING shipping to a california warehouse - PM me - as I'd love to know about it.

yeah my friend at a printing company just got his DVD replication resources to extend their microsoft excel price matrix to me - looks like a DVD with 4 color is currently $0.47

Great idea. I'm hearing the distribution market is really tight right now too. But what would it take to self distribute to the larger home DVD companies like blockbuster and netflix? That's what the producer rep would do for your film. Does this program offer any assistance in that realm?

Keep in mind, a sale to Netflix or Blockbuster doesn't get you much money...only ego satisfaction. Typically they will only pay about $10 per DVD and only order maybe 100 to 200.
