Cel phones (at least mine) when close to an audio system make a digital chirping noise when dialing out or receiving calls< I'm going to asume you know the noise of which I speak. Sometimes, that noise is broadcast through my speakers and I know the phone is going to ring, and sure enough it does. There are times though when I hear that digital chirping noise, I expect the phone to ring and....Nothing! So my quesyion to those in the know, What is happening between my cel phone and the service provider when it makes that noise and no call is received? I'm guessing the system is checking the location / status of the phone but I'm just guessing. Does anyone have the skinny on this?

Jup, that's exactly it.

The sound you are hearing is the radio interfearance fromt eh phonebeeing picked up in the sound sysem. It's wose in GSM (Europe) then CDMA (USA), thoguh all the systems are getting mixed now, so no sayign really.

And yes, the phone does remain in periodical radio contact even when you arn't using it.

Thanks mikko...I was thinking it could be like in "The Conversation" where the salesman at the buggers convention says "Idial the targets number and pause before dialing the las digit, then I blow the harmonic tone. The phone does not ring in the targets home but instead is turned into a listening device" or some such thing. So lately when the phone makes that noise and doesn't ring I assume someone is blowing into a tiny harmonica and turning my cell into a bug! So I find myself, when this happens saying " Yes sir, the aliens are in position and will land on the whitehouse lawn as scheduled...And I have been told by Jack, the head grey, that there is no reason to doubt the invasion of earth will not happen this Friday" Since the FBI hasn't knocked on my door since I began this activity, I started to think it maybe a totally harmless anomally! :)

On set's we have had issues with Radios and Cellphones being on, When i have a radio Clipped to my Pocket and my cellphone on, We get pretty bad little beeps.
