What is exactly Matteboxes? What do we use it for?

[Japanesedvxuser]

I was searching the fuction of Matteboxes on line but I couldn't find it. Would anyone can explain what it does briefly?

Thank you

It helps keep light from hitting the lens in a way that would cause a lens flare and they also have slots to hold filters (plus they make your camera look cool).
