What is everyone's day job?

I do all aspects of video production for a national insurance company. Commercials, training videos, promotional items, etc.

Of course what I really want to do is direct! :cheesy:

Seriously, in my down time I work on independent films (currenly of my own writing, but I think it would be a unique challenge to direct a script that is not my own). Maybe someday one will make it big. :)

I'm a graphic artist and web developer for my family's construction & real estate company. I spend all day using adobe products and hanging out on dvxuser. In my spare time I'm trying to write my first script / screenplay on Final Draft 7.

*When I grow up* I want to be a movie director / actor similar to my main man Q-Tip. That's Quentin Tarantino to everyone else. :) Until then I won't be 100% satisfied in life.

I used to work for a food production facility that supplies chili for Wendy's. Job safety was a major concern and I was fired for carelessness and failing to report an accident. And now I have to learn to operate my DVX with half a right thumb. Bottom line: Tell your supervisor when you get injured at work, it'll save you a LOT of trouble down the road.

I'm a Full-Time Avid Editor, but not one of our 40+ producers is capable of writing a coherent script/turning off the auto iris/using a tripod/focusing/white balancing/getting good audio/not making my life a living hell. Kill me now.

im a previz supervisor for movies, i lead a team of artists that create 3d animated versions of a scene or sequence in a film. this helps everyone in the production understand what the directors vision is of the movie, and because we create the accurate to real world dimensions, art dept, vfx, stunts, physical effects, whoever, can be better prepared for what they will need to do to pull off a shot or sequence.

still hesantant to call my self a director...once i land my first paying gig i will think about it...

I'm a security guard at PDI/ Dreamworks. So I basically get payed to do homework, look at storyboards/ concept art for animated films and surf DVXuser.

TC, theres this guy who is a model maker in an art department. he was a security gaurd at universal for a long time. his passion was to make models in the art department of a film. anyway, he goes off and makes a scale model of the entire universal lot. somehow he managed to show speilberg what he had done...and steven got him a job making models in the art dept of the movie he was working on....crazy...you just never know....

Well, I did work with 5 mentally retarded men in their home until a week and a half ago. After 13 years I called up and quit. This was mostly my decision with a little push from my shrink whom I started to see about 2 months ago. I knew what my problems were and he agreed, but I still had to pay his fees :/ anyway, I am now awaiting an unemployment interview and hoping I am approved. If so I'm going to spend the summer shooting weddings and work on my own stuff on the side. after the unemployment dries up, who knows. There aren't many jobs in my area.

Rich, so if you have a location somewhere, you guys run out there and measure it so it can be blocked prior to shooting or is this for studio/backlot work?

yeah, we run out and measure it...once they find a location that we will need to previz action in, we will go out and measure it. sometimes that means sending us somewhere. sometimes we get lidar scans (3d model of an enviroment made from a laser that scans the enviroment)...which is pretty ****in cool...

There was a lady who used to work for Dreamworks (It was still PDI at the time) as a security guard. She developed this children's show, showed it to a few people in the company. They helped her get a test show animated. She went and pitched it at Nickelodeon, she now works there making that show. Though I have no idea what show it is.

The guy who wrote Antoine Fisher was a security guard as well. Me? I can't even seem to get a job as a Render Wrangler.

But I'm tryin, and I'll be damned if I don't bug the hell out of the character animators to look at my walk cycles, and give me pointers. Cheers to them.
